People fast and offer prayers at specific Muhurat of the day. Rishi is a Vedic term which means “sages” who realise the supreme truth and knowledge after intense meditation. Sapta Rishi is the worship of sages including Kashyapa, Atri, Bharadhvaja, Vishvamitra, Gauthama, Jamadagni, and Vashishta. On Rishi Panchami, Hindu women devotees fast to express gratitude to the ancient sages who devoted their life for the well being of the society. The day is in remembrance of the sages who left worldly desires for others. Rishi Panchami is known as Vishwakarma Puja in some parts of Kerala. On this day, people take a ritual bath in holy rivers and offer prayers. Women who observe this day offer Prasad to Gods and wash their husband’s feet. People worship Lord Ganesh, Navagraha which is the nine planetary Gods, Saptarshis, the seven Sages and Arundathi. Muhurat timings: 1:09am to 1:35pm Duration = 2 Hours 24 Minutes Panchami Tithi Begins = 14:51 on 13/Sep/2018 Panchami Tithi Ends = 14:23 on 14/Sep/2018 Rishi Panchami is also widely celebrated in Nepal.
