Premium streaming platform Disney+ Hotstar has announced a first-of-its-kind online dance competition: Home Dancer. As people across India remain confined to their homes, Disney+ Hotstar is gearing up to offer a unique opportunity for dance lovers to showcase their moves from the comfort of their homes. Within the first week of the show’s announcement, Disney+ Hotstar has received thousands of submissions, far surpassing what an on-ground show would achieve in terms of entries, encompassing participants across age groups and regions. While most submissions have come from the younger generation (below 30 years), there has also been a great response from people in the age groups of 30 years and above. The show has not only received several entries from metros but also from smaller cities and towns such as Banswara, Jhunjhunu, Bhilwara, showing that India is full of budding talent. Disney+Hotstar will air the pilot episode of Home Dancer on 25th May. The show will feature an exciting celebrity line-up and selected performances from the best entertainers in India. Bollywood star Jacqueline Fernandez will launch Home Dancer, which will be hosted by popular television actor Karan Wahi.

Acclaimed choreographers, Chandni Srivastava and Chetan Salunke of Dance+ fame, will be the judges of the show.

Home Dancer, which will air bi-weekly, is the first online competition of its kind in India that allows viewers to vote for their favorite entries. Spanning a period of five weeks, there will be a cash prize of INR 4 lakhs up for grabs every week.

Disney+ Hotstar spokesperson said, “We are thrilled to announce the launch of Home Dancer as part of our endeavor to offer interactive and innovative ways to connect with our viewers while we continue to stay at home. We are glad to receive participation from metros and non-metros while tapping into a diverse set of audiences and cultures”

To be able to participate in the campaign, interested viewers can login to the Disney+ Hotstar app, select the theme of the week and choose any one of the 10 pre-loaded tracks to submit their respective 60-90-second dance videos on the microsite. The first week’s theme is #LockdownDanceUp. After receiving the entry submissions, the judges will shortlist the top 10 entries. Every week two episodes will be released on Disney+ Hotstar wherein the shortlisted performances will be featured in an episode, following which voting lines will be open for two days. Thereafter, in the follow-up episode, the contestant with the maximum number of votes will be announced the winner of Home Dancer for the week.

Bollywood actor Jacqueline Fernandez shared, “I’m extremely happy that Disney+ Hotstar has launched Home Dancer, to connect with their audiences as we continue to stay quarantined. What appealed to me is that it caters to both - dance lovers as it gives their talent the stage it deserves and viewers, who are always eager to watch fresh content.”

Concept Disney + Hotstar Home Dancer

Judges will be shortlisting the top 10 performances and makers will be showcasing those Top 10 performances on the Disney+ Hotstar. Makers will be announcing the final winners of the show on the basis of the viewer voting on the episode. The show has a PRO TIP for the participants. The show will be hosting two episodes each week. So the participants can send multiple videos of their dance. And by this, their chances of winning also increases.

How to do Registration for Home Dancer?

Registration for the show is now open. Here is the step by step procedure to follow for the registration of Home Dancer.

Participants need to submit the participation video for episode 1 by TUESDAY, 9 PM IST.

• Click on the official website of Disney+ Hotstar i.e. “homedancer.hotstar.com” Registration page will open.
• Then scroll down and upload a clear photo of your face. ( Max Size: 5MB, Formats: JPG, PNG)
• Enter your details like Name, Phone number, Email ID, Age, City, and Song Selected.
• Now upload your video (Max Size: 500MB, Formats accepted: MP4, AVI, MOV, MPG, MPEG)
• Read and agree to all the terms and conditions.
• Click on submit. And your registration is done!

Steps to Follow

• Makers have released the theme for the dance. So check out the theme given by the makers. Select the dance number which is your favorite.
• Shoot a video of 60 – 90 secs in a horizontal.
• Upload your dance video. And you are done!

Do’s while taking a video of your Dance AuditionMake sure your phone is in landscape mode while shooting the video of your dance.

• Keep a gap of 5 seconds at the start and the end of the video. i.e leave a gap 5 seconds and then start to dance. Once your dance is over keep a gap of 5 seconds in the end and then end the shooting of the video.
• Select the songs only from the Home Dancer page library as other versions are not allowed. There is a total of 15 songs in their library.
• Make sure the dance video is between 60-90 seconds only.
• Keep the background clear and make sure no objects like towels, utensils, etc come in the background of the dance video.
• Do not use any filters while shooting the dance video and keep it natural.
• There should be proper and good lighting while shooting the video.

Winning Prize: Every week there is a prize money of Rs 4 lakh to be won.

Chandni Srivastava is an actress, known for Heartbeats (2017), Made in Heaven (2019) and Street Dancer 3D (2020).



Jacqueline's father Elroy Fernansez is a Sri Lankan and mother Kim is a Malaysian. She has two brothers and an older sister. Her parents moved to Bahrain when she was very young.

After her schooling in Bahrain, she was awarded a Scholarship to study at the University of Sydney, where she pursued a degree in Media and Communications in Sydney, Australia. Having a passion for cultures and languages she also joined the Berlitz school of languages, where she learned to speak Spanish and improve her French and Arabic.

In 2006, she was crowned the Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Universe 2006 in March, 2006 and also competed in Miss Universe 2006. After winning Miss Sri Lanka title in 2006, she entered the world of television and anchored a show on Sri Lanka's business called Lanka Business Report.

She came to Mumbai on a modeling contract and landed a role in Bollywood movie Aladdin (2009) directed by Sujoy Ghosh along with well known Indian stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, and Riteish Deshmukh. After the success of her first film, she got signed on by Milap Zaveri for his directorial debut movie Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai (2010) in which she plays the part of an alien who comes to earth in search of love. Her co-star from her first movie, Riteish Deshmukh was her leading-man again. The director recommended her to well-known director Farah Khan who guest-starred in this movie. She made a cameo appearance (in a song) in the movie Housefull (2010) which was directed by Farah Khan's younger brother, Sajid Khan



Karan Wahi is an actor and director, known for Have You Met You (2017), Kahani Hamari... Dil Dosti Deewanepan Ki (2016) and Sacred Games (2018).
