K kay baad? Not oblivion, we hope

It has been more than two months that both of Ekta’s two big shows - Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi – wrapped up. And while a few of her pet actors have taken on reality shows or cameo appearances, we survey how well the rest of them have done since their big shows wound up.

Smriti Irani

With Ekta since: 2000 (She left Balaji for one year from 2007 to April 2008)

Role: Tulsi in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi

Now: Maniben.com serial on SAB TV and a film based on Saibaba where she played Dwarkamai. Also working as a producer for film with UTV.

Although in between she had fall out for a year with Ekta, Smriti sorted them out and came back as Tulsi in Kyunki… However soon after her return, the show ended abruptly. She also did few roles in her own serials but at the same time Smriti’s own productions - Waaris and Mere Apney – also wrapped up.

Sakshi Tanwar

With Ekta since: 2000

Role: Parvati in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki

Now: No current roles. She says she will launch a production house soon. She writes a column for a Hindi Magazine Saheli.

She became a household name and didn’t feel the need to do any other show. But with Kahaani ending Sakshi decided to take a break from television. It is believed that she went to her hometown Indore for a few months and although she is now back in Mumbai, she says she is in no hurry to take on anything new.

Ronit Roy

With Ekta since: 2004

Role: Mihir in Kyunki

Now: Dharamaraj in Ekta’s new show Bandini. Will be seen in a movie too.

Ronit was brought back from oblivion by Ekta as the popular character of Mihir. He immediately shot to fame with character and then continued working with Ekta in various serials. He runs his own security agency too.

Hiten and Gauri Tejwani

With Ekta since: 2001

Roles: Karan and Nadini in Kyunki

Now: Hosting Nach Baliye’s current season, will enter Kumkum soon. Hiten has been doing many cameos for Ekta in various shows including Karan in Mahabharat

One of Ekta Kapoor’s most loved couple have only been doing cameos every since Kyunki… wrapped up. Hiten is also playing a part in Jasuben Jayantilal Joshi Ki Joint Family and he will also do cameo in Kitani Mohobbat Hai too.

Ali Azgar

With Ekta since: 2000

Role: Kamal in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki

Now: He will soon be seen a Shah Rukh Khan’s first comedy show Ghar Ki Baat Hai.

Everyone’s favourite brother-in-law, Ali Asgar, has been doing small reality shows ever since Kahaani… wrapped up.

Sudha Shivpuri

With Ekta since: 2000

Roles: Baa in Kyunki

Now: Kitani Mohobbat Hai as Dadi

The ever lovable Baa continued as Biji Ekta’s other serial Kasamh Se once Kyunki... wrapped up. Lately she was also seen in Kis Desh Main Hai Mera Dil.

Kiran Karmarkar

With Ekta since: 2000 (He left for a year before making a comeback as Om)

Role: Om in Kahaani

Now: He has been doing many Hindi and English plays

Kiran, a Marathi actor, only came into limelight with this character. And after the show wrapped up, Kiran went back to theatre.

Shilpa Sakhlani

With Ekta since: 2004

Role: Ganga in Kyunki

Now: She has not signed any show as of now and is hardly visible on television from the past two months.

Ever since Kyunki went off air, the popular bahu has simply vanished from the small screen. She has not been seen on TV at all and nor does she accompany hubby Apoorva Agnihotri to any of the parties. Shilpa has not signed a single show but was only seen in a reality show Saas Vs Bahu which she had signed even when the soap was on air and that too ended soon after Kyunki…
