Default Why does Redmi K30 Pro does not have IP68 water and dust resistance; Lu Weibing expla

Redmi will consider IP68 water and dust resistance for its future flagship smartphones. On March 24, the company introduced Redmi K30 Pro as the new flagship device in its product lineup. The smartphone comes with bells and whistles features like the Snapdragon 865 mobile platform. However, the smartphone comes with only IP53 water and dust resistance. It means you can use the Redmi K30 Pro by the side of the pool but cannot take it inside the water.

In other words, the new flagship device is not a waterproof smartphone. Lu Weibing, General Manager of Redmi brand, tried of offer reasons. On Weibo, he posted, “Redmi K30 Pro supports IP53, which is enough to cope with splash-proof. I think IP68 is not needed.” This irked a lot of Redmi buyers in Xiaomi‘s home market of China. The view did not go down well with Redmi fans on Weibo. A large number of users commented that the company should launch smartphones with IP68 rating.

“Since everyone likes IP68 so much, we will also consider it for future products,” Weibing said on Weibo. This means the next flagship device from Redmi will feature proper water and dust resistance. The primary reason that smartphone makers don’t offer proper IP rating is because of the cost. OnePlus, for instance, includes decent protection but does not get its devices certified.

The OnePlus 8 Series, the next flagship from OnePlus, is expected to finally offer official IP rating. It is still not clear when Redmi will launch a smartphone with IP68 water and dust resistance. While IP53 will be good enough for most Redmi K30 Pro customers, the popular opinion is otherwise. Redmi, which has become an independent brand in China, needs to ensure the trust of these consumers. For Weibing, the question would be whether he can deliver IP68 rating without increasing the cost.
