Though channels have a mix of fiction and non-fiction shows on weekend slots, surprisingly it’s soaps that score. Here’s looking at the popular programmes across channels

Star Plus


Fridayto Sunday, 9.30 pm: A slice-of-life-soap Baa Bahoo Aur Baby has the distinction of creating a new, successful slot for soaps on weekends.
Friday to Sunday, 9 pm. The historical Prithviraj Chauhan, tracing the life and times of the warrior king, has interested viewers since day one.
Friday - Saturday, 10 pm. Amul Star Voice of India A me-too Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, this show is relatively new and has been on air fo the last two years but hasn’t really made a dent in viewership.

Zee

Friday to Sunday, 9 pm: Naagin is a throwback to the Eighties era when Sridevi hit the silver screen as a Nagina. The serial has an icchadari naagin avenging the death of her partner. The popualrity of this serial shows that naag and naagins continue to enthrall viewers.
Friday to Sunday, 9.30 pm Aladdin. This fantasy tale has caught the imagination of children and elders alike.
Friday - Saturday, 10 pm. Sa Re Ga Ma Pa: One of the longest running show across channels, it had started off as a simple talent-hunt, but had to change its format with the advent of Indian Idol.

Friday-Saturday, 9 pm: Indian Idol changed the face of reality television in India. An interactive show, for the first time viewers could choose the winner with their votes. Also, since the show starts from the audition stage, viewers connect with the contestants from day one and follow his/her journey to the end. Now, in its fourth season, Indian Idol has opened to a rating of 4.17 making it the top-rated show on the channel.
Friday, 10 pm CID: This detective series has been solving cases for 11 years now and continues to be among the top five shows of the channel.


Saturday, 10 pm Kaante Ki Takkar Comedy Circus : This Sony property that combines a TV actor and a stand-up comedy artiste has been raising laughter since the last two seasons. Kaante Ki Takkar has contestants of the first two seasons and is amongst the top-rated shows. For Sony, it is the reality shows that continue to dominate the charts.

The Great Indian Laughter Challenge - STAR ONE
Friday, 9 pm: Laughter Challenge This stand-up comedy show set off a new trend in reality television. Not only did it catapult the artistes to popularity, it spawned off a spate of comedy shows. It has just finished its fourth season but continues to be Star One’s channel-driver.

Friday-Saturday 9 pm: Chak De Sheher Di Kudiyaan Te Gali De Gunde is the channel-driving show for 9X. A dance competition it is a face-off between small-town guys and city girls.

Friday-Saturday, 9 pm : Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena The USP of this show are undoubtedly the cricketers who show off their s****s in a different field, that of dancing. With telly-actresses as their partners, Harbhajan Singh, Dinesh Kartik, Irfan Pathan and Sreesanth are trying to groove and lure viewers. With Sushmita Sen and Wasim Akram in the judges’ chairs, the show has started off a new ballgame.10 pm. Bigg Boss Season II airs throughout the week on this time-slot and is one of the top-rated shows on the channel.
