Thumbs up Mahabharat's director Garry Binder gets award posthumously

Mahabharat's director Garry Binder was honoured over the weekend for his work despite being afflicted with blood cancer, which eventually ****ed him.

At the Indian Telly Awards, actor Ram Kapoor came to give the award to Garry's wife.

Garry was only 33 and a favourite of a lot of people he worked with. The entire Balaji camp, except Ekta herself, came to witness the honour. Shabbir Ahluwalia, Karan Patel, and many others came on the stage with Garry’s wife who received the special award. Garry’s wife could not stop her tears on the stage and could barely speak about him. "He was a brave person and a great director; he will always remain with me," she said, "I wish that he would have been here to take this award.”

Garry was busy working for Ekta Kapoor’s Mahabharat when he died and has directed many shows with Balaji. Mahabharat was her biggest recent project and she handed it to her most trusted man, Garry. However, he died even before the first episode went on air. Ram Kapoor said on his blog that he had often appealed for medical help for Garry. But Garry continued shooting for the serial till the very end and Ekta always maintained that she and Garry thought in a similar way and he knew very well what she wanted.

In his honour, the Telly Awards organisers said they would give a special award called the Garry Binder award each year.
