Difference Between The Control Keys PM02 PM03

What is the difference between the control keys PM02 & PM03? On which occassion we can use it?

These are Control Keys which is used in the PM orders. The use of Control Keys are;
- Which Business functions you wants to carry out.
- How you want to handle the operation.

PM02 - External Processing is carried out for the operation, and a purchase requisition and a purchase order are generated from this. The costs of this task are posted through the goods receipt or invoice receipt for the purchase order.

PM03 - External Services is carried out for the service, and through DP90 debit memo request the sales order has been generated in the background & billing has to be done. For example - Company is planning to give the Equipment (Lift) for the service to the 3rd party (vendor). Usually they will maintain Vendor details in the Equipment master.

The key of order determines the type of subcontracting:

PM02 : the sub-contracted activity is managed by means of a normal purchase requisition.

PM03 : the sub-contracted activity is managed on the basis of the service master or conditions and imply then the seizure of the services (Plant maintenance -> Maintenance Processing -> Environment -> Service Master ).

The purchase requisition contains conditions relating to the operation.


Map the scenarios below with control key.

Scenario 1: If one equipment brokedown, I need special technical team to attend the breakdown and solve the problem, because lack of expertise with local team.

Scenario 2: Regular calibration or check up done by manufacturer in the plant.

Scenario 3: Sending Equipment out during breakdown for repair or calibration.

Also the system requires Service approval for PM03 not for PM02 why is it like that. Why the job provided using PM02 does not require Service approval although it is also repair done by vendor.

1. You can use PM02 for procurement of non-stock materials and PM03 for procurement of external services.
2. For special team you create them as a separate work center performing work centrally and proceed.
3. For regular calibration check up you can create an Maintenance plan with order type PM06 calibration order or if you want if check is done once in a while for the eqpt then create eqpt task list and cerate PM06 order and use tht task listExtras in tht order and proceed with the calibraiotn cycle.
4. You can send eqpt outside using Refubishment purpose but inventory management need to be activiated for the eqpt linking material to eqpt and need to maintian split valuaiton for the material.

Scenario 1:
If its done through a particular workshop every time then you can create that workshop as an external workcenter and get your repairs done. Or you can create this repair as a Service and get it done using the vendor and control key PM03.

Scenario 2:
Regular calibration done by the manufacturer can be done either by using control key PM02 with Calibration as an external operation or as a calibration service using a vendor and control key PM03.

Scenario 3:
Sending Equipment out for repair is totally different procedure and done using sub contracting which involves MM also. Alternatively if its inside the plant then try mapping it through refurbishment process but that would need Serial No. assignment.

PM02 is not a standard External Service, Its basically outsourcing of operations at Labour level.
