The film begins at the time of partition, immediately after independence. Tara Singh (Sunny Deol) is a truck driver who saves the wealthy Sakina (Amisha Patel) during communal riots. She finds out that her father is dead. After a while, the two fall in love, get married and lead a happy life. They have a son. Then, Sakina finds out that her father is very much alive and is now the Mayor (Amrish Puri) of Lahore in Pakistan. When contacted, he is joyous to find out that Sakina is alive and invites her over to meet him at Lahore. Leaving behind her husband and son, Sakina goes to meet her father. Only on reaching there does she find out that her father has plans for her. He intends that she fo ...rget about her husband and child and begin life anew.
