Best horror shows
Currently, television in India has very little to offer horror lovers. But there was a time when people used to love watching horror shows and they used to keep their eyes open (and often closed) for such shows. The 10 PM slot was initially when the horror shows would appear but a decade ago that slot was taken up by the Saas-Bahu sagas that have, more or less, been in the position since. We take a look at the best of Horror TV to date.
Zee Horror Show Zee Horror Show was synonymous with scary TV and was produced by the kings of India's horror industry, the Ramsay brothers. Over-the-top plots dominated the ZHS, and it soon picked up and became famous. Many different ghost stories were shown on it, including some that became very famous like Jeevan Mrityu, based on female infanticide. The lead in that show was played by Pallavi Joshi. It was one of the most viewed horror episodes ever, and on public demand a sequel was also shot and shown. |

Aahat Aahat means ‘ The sound that precedes someone's coming.' The name fit the show quite well and there was a ghost story each week on this show that was quite scary. Ghosts of every form: Zombies, phantoms, undead people, possessed objects, witches and wizards. You name it, Aahat had it. The show was also popular with kids because of this range. Shown on Sony TV, the show was on air during the period when every channel had a competing horror show. Aahat returned to the TV screens a second time, but by then the horror era was over. |

Shhh Koi Hai This Star serial was based on the life of a fictional ghostbuster character, Vikraal, whose mission in life is to get rid of all the ghosts and evil spirits in the world. However, he couldn't do this single-handedly and thus had to team up with two other ghostbusters, Bijli and Captain. The trio was called Trikaal. The three took on the baddie ghosts and vowed to obliterate evil. The actor Mamik (Aamir's brother in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander) played Vikraal. Shhh Koi Hai was also popular with kids because of its modern concepts. |

Sssshhh…Phir Koi Hai Sssshhh…Phir Koi Hai was the sequel to Ssshhh…Koi Hai but this time was aired on STAR One. Each episode had a different plot and there was no continuity of characters as there had been in the earlier series. The show was also popular and ended only when horror began to go out of fashion. |
