The show barely launched a fortnight ago and already 'Indian Idol 5' has shortlisted its 'Final 17' contenders, among them only one will emerge as 'Desh Ke Awaaz' and win a once in a lifetime opportunity to be a playback singer in a forthcoming movie of Indian’s premier film studio - Yash Raj Films.

The top 17 shortlisted contestants include Meghna Kumar, Asit Kumar Tripathi, Vishwas Rai, Lakshay Nijhawan, Rakesh Maini, Kanika Joshi, Yashraj Kapil, Shreeramchandra, Arvind Gujral, Bhumi Trivedi, Naushad Ali Kawa, Swaroop Khan, Manisha Karmakar, Tia Kar, Shivam Pathak, Sashi Suman and Arpita Khan.

These top 17 contestants chosen from over 1 lakh aspirants will compete week after week to make an impact on the audience as their fate will be now decided through public voting.

'Indian Idol 5' - Monday to Thursday at 21:00. It will then become a bi-weekly airing on Monday and Tuesdays from Monday 17th May. The finale of 'Indian Idol 5' will be broadcast on Sunday 1st August.
