KBC 4: Candidates

Kaun Banega Crorepati will be back on your television screens next month, with Amitabh Bachchan as host, and the excitement is steadily increasing.Over 50 lakh aspiring contestants from all over India have registered for the show. Out of these, 1,233 entries were randomly chosen. Auditions began early this month, after which the short-listed contestants had to appear for a quiz and personality test.

Rajul Hegde spoke to five aspiring candidates, as they waited their turn to audition for the show. Will you see them on the show? Let's wait and watch.

Sarfraz Multhani from Rajkot, Gujarat
Age: 31 years

I have two children -- an eight-year-old daughter and three-year-old son. I live in a joint family of 15 people. They were all very excited to know that I was coming to Mumbai for the auditions.

I am a pharmacist, working for a government dispensary. Few people at my work were aware that I was coming for the auditions. They have asked me to add their name in the companion list if I get selected and go to the next level. I am still auditioning but the list of people who want to come along has gone up to 50! (chuckles)

I lost my right eye when I was two years old. The doctors told me that it was difficult to get my vision back. There is a chance that I might get it back with new technology so my doctors have advised me to do a check-up once in every 10 years. But I need at least Rs 10 lakh for the operation. So I hope I go to the next level and win some money.

I want to buy a house and car for my family too.

Naveen Kumar, from Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh

I want to come on the show for two reasons -- to win money, and to share screen space with Amitabh Bachchan. Though I am not a very big fan of his, it will be a pleasure to meet a personality like him.

I am studying law in Hyderabad. I live with my mother and two younger sisters, who are also studying. We lost our father a few years ago and now are living off his pension.

If I mange to win some money, it will lessen my burden of getting my sisters married. I want to request the channel to increase the prize money. This amount was fixed in 2000. Taking inflation into account, they should now increase it.

Madhulika Kumbhare from Mumbai, Maharashtra
Age: 35 years

I want to come on the show just for the thrill of coming on television and meeting Mr Bachchan.

My husband and I work for a software firm. I'm in the ninth month of my pregnancy; my due date is two weeks away. My husband didn't mind me coming on this show; he asked me to go ahead only I could take care of myself.

If I get selected, I will make sure I don't miss an opportunity to come on this show. I will leave my baby with my husband and come on the show (smiles).

If I win the money, I will buy a sprawling bungalow in Pune.

Amul Kumar Jain from Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh
Age: 32 years


I am a big fan of Mr.Bachchan; there is not a single movie of his that I have missed.
I have come for the auditions with my wife. We have two children.
I am from the Konkan coast of Maharashtra but have been living in Hyderabad for the last five years. I have a garment shop.



I have not come on the show to win money for my family. I love sports and I want to promote Kho Kho and Kabadi, which are popular in rural areas but dying at the national level due to lack of recognition.

Age: 35


I have participated on this show just for the thrills, and of course, for Amitabh Bachchan.


My husband is a general manger in a logistics company. I have two children of ages three and six. I have left them with their grandparents and come for the auditions.
My relatives, who knew I was coming for the auditions have already starting teasing me and asking for their share of the money if I make it to the next level and win!
If I manage to win, I will give half of it for a social cause.
