Hanuman Jayanti: Tamil Nadu's Namakkal Anjaneyar Temple Celebrates The Birth of Lord Hanuman



Namakkal Anjaneyar Temple in Tamil Nadu witnesses thousands of devotees on Hanuman Jayanti waiting to catch a glimpse of the idol. Hindu devotees in Tamil Nadu celebrate Hanumanth Jayanti in the month of Margashirsha, which falls during the second half of December or January in the Gregorian calendar. The southern state observes Hanuman Jayanti also known as Anjaneyar Jayanthi during Margashirsha Amavasya which coincides with Moolam Nakshatram. As per beliefs, Hanuman was born when the Moolam Nakshatram was prevailing. The day witnesses large-scale celebrations including special prayers in temples in the state. Hanuman Jayanti is observed on full moon day during Chaitra month (March or April) in northern states.



Hindu believers in Andhra Pradesh celebrate Hanuman Jayanti for 41 days on Chaitra Purnima which ends during Krishna Paksha in Vaishaka month. Namakkal Anjaneyar Temple is a popular temple of Lord Hanuman in Tamil Nadu. At 18 feet, it has one of the tallest idols of Lord Hanuman in Tamil India. Namakkal Anjaneyar temple is constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture and holds many temple festivals and prayers. During some yearly festivals are held at the temple, the image of presiding deities are taken around the streets.
Special puja, abhishekam and laksharchana are performed on the idol of Lord Hanuman on this day. Last year, on s Anjaneyar Jayanthi, the idol, was adorned with 54,000 ‘vadai maalai’. Devotees pour in at the temple as early as 4 am on this day. Large queues can be seen outside the temple throughout the day. Security is strengthened and police personnel are posted across the temple area.
