Tulsi Pujan Diwas: Know Importance And Puja Rituals of The Festival

Tulsi Puja, a Hindu festival is celebrated on December 25th every year by Hindus. Known as Tulsi Pujan Diwas, the festival is quite popular among Hindus. Tulsi being of great medicinal value is widely used in temples for prayers and other auspicious occasions. According to Hindu beliefs, Tulsi plant is believed to bring prosperity for believers. Tulsi which is known as Holy Basil or Ocimum Tenuiflorum, its scientific name is native to the Indian subcontinent and is cultivated widely in the Southeast Asian tropics



On the day of Tulsi Pujan, believers keep the plant in a clean place and offer water to it. Small pieces of sandalwood, sindoor, rice, flowers and Prasad is also offered to it. People then light a lamp and worship the plant. Some devotees perform Pranayama (breathing exercises) as the plant exhales more oxygen compared to other plants, thus inhaling pure air. Tulsi leaves are also distributed among people considering it as prasad. Tulsi products like its herbal tea and the essential oil are quite popular for his medicinal values. People also consume its dried powder or eat it mixed with ****er.

Tulsi holds great importance in Hindu scriptures mainly due to its medicinal value and ability to cure diseases. Tulsi can also fight bacterial and viral infections and can treat skin diseases also. Ayurveda uses tulsi in most of his medicines due to its rich healing properties. Tulsi Vivah is different from Tulsi Puja. During Tulsi Vivah, the sacred plant is married in the spirit of Lord Krishan following customs and traditions.
