From Saturday, December 19, Channel V is telecasting a new reality show The Player based on the hit international show Unanimous, it puts the contestants in an underground bunker with Rs.1 crore up for grabs. This reality show turns a very fundamental reality show tenet on its head - the only way to win, is by choosing someone else to win.

To win the contestants have to choose 1 player UNANIMOUSLY to take the money. To add to this cruel twist of altruism is the fact that for every second that they don’t reach a decision, they lose another rupee. Until a decision is reached or the money runs out.

Of course, this is just the outer shell of the show that is effectively a giant human experiment.

In the very first episode as a ‘penalty’ for lacking a unanimous decision, the host Rajiv Lakshman reveals 3 ‘dark secrets’ belonging to unnamed contestants. These include having offered ***ual favours to a homo***ual on the casting couch, blackmailing one’s parents and having an affair with a married woman. The contestants are then asked to choose the most deplorable among the three secrets, not knowing who each one belongs to. The ‘chosen one’ is then proclaimed an ‘outcast’ who is longer in the race for the money.




What would you do with Rs. 1 crore? A lot of people would be able to answer that.

But why should you give up your chance of winning Rs. 1 crore?

This is the question that each of the 10 players on this big ticket property would be faced with And the one person who has can convince the other 9 players to do exactly this will be crowned as The Player!
