Doordarshan to gross Rs 160 million from T20 World Cup
Doordarshan is committed to generating revenue of at least Rs 160 million from the telecast of all the India matches apart from the two semi-finals and the final of the ICC World Cup Twenty20.
All these matches will be telecast on the national network. While the first match featuring India is against Bangladesh on 6 June, the two semi-finals are on 18 and 19 June, and the final is on 21 June. Sources in the sports wing of Doordarshan told indiantelevision.com that Doordarshan had bagged the rights to marketing the matches being telecast on the pubcaster as it bid higher than ESPN. ESPN Star Sports, which is the telecast rights holder, will supply the signals free to Doordarshan under the Sports Broadcasting Signals (Mandatory Sharing With Prasar Bharati) Act 2007. However, the commercial revenue generated by Doordarhan from the telecast of these matches will be shared on a 75:25 per cent basis as provided in the Act. |
