This year has been quite eventful in the Bengali entertainment industry, especially for television. With more and more celebrities turning to television, Bollywood biggies in reality shows, and veteran actress Deboshree Roy saying yes to a daily soap, 2021 has been filled with memorable moments. This year, several shows were launched. Some worked while a few had a quick wrap-up. Several shows, including ‘Sreemoyee’, ‘Mithai’, ‘Khorkuto’, and ‘Sanjher Baati’ have been remade into other languages. Sreemoyee came to an end


Sreemoyee has been in the news since its launch in 2019. Right from the show being remade into Hindi (as Anupama), Tamil ( Baakiyalakshmi) and 4 other languages, to June aunty’s constant conspiracy to its tragic end, ‘Sreemoyee’ was in news in 2021. The show earned praises from different quarters for featuring the re-marriage of protagonist Sreemoyee in her late 40s. Similarly, the tragic end of the show with Rohit Sen’s demise, caused a massive reaction among its fans. Tota Roychoudhury enjoyed immense popularity as Rohit and was flooded with emotional messages from fans after the show aired Rohit’s death.

Raj Chakraborty directing a non-fiction show after a long time


After almost a decade, Raj Chakraborty directed a non-fiction show. He directed and produced ‘Sangeet Er Mahajuddho’, which came to an end after declaring Shrayee Paul as the winner. Bengali TV enjoyed a starry fever


Bengali television enjoyed a starry fever with more and more celebrities featuring on the small screen. Last year, Dev said yes to ‘Dance Dance Junior Season 2’. Continuing the trend, Jeet was seen on Bengali television after a long time. He was a part of reality show ‘Dance Bangla Dance’ which also starred Bollywood actor Govinda and Subhashree Ganguly as co-judges. The show recently came to an end by crowning Arnab Chakraborty-Sukanya Dey as the winners. Making the year more memorable, Helen, Anil Kapoor, Remo D’Souza, Sunny Leone, Urmila Matondkar, Raveena Tandon made guest appearances on Bengali TV. Sonu Nigam, too, said yes to ‘Super Singer Season 3’ and is currently gracing the show as a judge alongside Kumar Sanu and Koushiki Chakraborty.

Earlier this year, when Aindrila Sharma was diagnosed with cancer for the second time, the news left all her fans and industry colleagues deeply worried. But the actress, with her indomitable spirit, continued her fight. She underwent chemotherapy. At that time, she was playing the lead in ‘Jiyon Kathi’. She set an example and completed shooting soon after being discharged from the hospital. She underwent a critical surgery few months back and according to the doctors, she is cancer-free now.
