Default TOP 10 Khatu Shyam Temple

One of the most respected Hindu temples in Rajasthan is Khatu Shyam Temple. Found in Sikar district in Rajasthan, it receives numerous visitors on a daily basis who throng to offer prayers to Shyam Baba.

If you plan to visit this sacred spot, there are some things you should know beforehand that will help you make the most of your trip. Here are the top ten things that should be kept in mind when visiting the Khatu Shyam temple.

1.Know the history of the temple

This temple has a long and glorious past behind it. According to legends from the 9th century AD, Bapa Rawal, who was the founder of the Mewar dynasty in Rajasthan, built this temple. It is said that once Bapa Rawal came here, Lord Krishna appeared in his dream and told him to get an idol of himself hidden at that location. Bapa Rawal found it and built a temple there itself.

2.The best time to visit
Rajasthan is known for having very high temperatures, especially during the summer months; hence, it would be best not to travel around these times within the given period between April and July, which include peak summer months where temperatures can go above 45 degrees centigrade. The ideal time would be the winter months between October and February, when temperatures are cooler during Janmashtami and Holi festivals, which are popular with tourists flocking into town for religious reasons as well as other attractions like camel safaris, etc., causing heavy crowds within those periods.

3.Opening hours and Darshan timings
Before, Khatu Shyam Temple used to have different timings for summers and winters, but now, after major renovation work has been done on it, devotees can now come anytime because it remains open throughout all seasons 24/7, so they can pray while inside its premises.
Their five daily aartis take place at the following times:
  • Mangala Aarti: 5:30 AM
  • Shringar Aarti: 8:00 AM
  • Rajbhog Aarti: 12:30 PM
  • Sandhya Aarti: 7:00 PM
  • Shayan Aarti: 9:30 PM
4.Booking and queues
Advance booking is not required for regular darshan on normal days, though depending on the crowd, one can stand in queue lines ranging from 5 minutes to an hour. For elderly, handicapped devotees, or VIPs, special darshan slots can be booked online in advance.

5.What to carry?

When in any temple, make sure you wear modest clothes. Also, just have additional clothes with you. Saying no to trousers, miniskirts, and sleeveless tops for ladies will be okay. Since, as you enter the temple, you are supposed to remove your shoes, it would also be good if you carried socks with you. Other important things that can be taken during the journey are water bottles, caps or hats, shades, washcloths, dry snacks, etc.

6.Where to stay?
Several dharmshalas, or guest houses, operated by the temple trust offer affordable accommodation. There are hotels throughout Khatu village and lodges, as well as inns, especially around Khatu village, if needed. Because of this, during peak seasons like festivals, please remember to make your reservation well in advance.

7.How to reach?
Khatu Shyam Temple is situated at a distance of about 85 km from Jaipur, while its nearest railway station, Chomu, is nearly thirty kilometers away from there. Taxis and buses ply between Jaipur, Chomu, and Khatu Village.

The temple also has ample parking space for private vehicles, thereby allowing visitors to travel in their own cars without worrying about where they park them after reaching here because it could ensure the safety of their cars.

8.Temple rituals
At the temple counters outside, devotees can offer coconut, flowers, sweets, ghee, gangajal, etc. These are frequently employed materials when performing pujas and other ritual activities within the precincts of a temple. In addition to this, worshippers can also donate items for the morning Aarti, such as items required for daily ritual service.

9.Nearby attractions
After praying at Khatu Shyam Temple, you can also visit places like Khatu shyam ji Dham and Shri Radha Govindji Temple, among others, that are situated near it. The local bazaars around the temple provide excellent shopping venues for souvenirs, toys, idols, pictures, prasad, etc. It is also good to attend the festival of SHYAM ARTI, which is marked with a lot of enthusiasm every year.

Follow the rules
No photography or videography is permitted inside; please adhere strictly to this rule when within temple compound premises: leave your phones and gadgets in the locker room; keep silent; no littering, etc. Respect the attendants and fellow visitors. A visit to this historically and religiously significant church can be an uplifting experience; these tips should assist you in planning your pilgrimage comfortably and enhancing your Khatu Shyam Darshan experience fully. Travel safely! Be blessed!
