Presently, reality shows seem to have overtaken dailies in terms of numbers as well as popularity. They provide viewers with enough entertainment, drama, celeb quotient and suspense as any soap would with the added interactive quality of voting to see your favourite participant make it to the next round. But among the hordes of shows, only a handful is extremely successful in getting viewers hooked. Here are the best reality shows on television.



Dance India Dance

Judges: Mithun Chakraborty

Format: DID began with 18 participants picked from different parts of the country. These participants were mentored under 3 well-known professional dancers: Geeta Kapur, Remo D'Souza and Terrence Louis. The show is one of the best dance shows on television and is hosted by Jay Bhanushali and Soumya Tandon.

Time slot: Friday and Saturday, 10pm on Zee TV

Boogie Woogie

Judges: Javed Jaffrey.

Format: Boogie Woogie debuted in 1998 and has since been amongst the top dance realities on the small screen. The show is hosted by Naved and Ravi Behl, with Javed Jaffrey as the celebrity judge. It is one of the longest running dance shows on television.

Time slot: Friday and Saturday, 8pm on Sony TV

Judges: Rahul Mahajan and Sachin Pilgaonkar

Format: It is a stand up comedy show wherein the participants of Chote Miyan Bade Miyan (kids) and those of Laughter Challenge enact their hilarious performances together. The show is hosted by Juhi Parmar and Kapil Sharma.

Mummy Ke Superstars

Judges: Vishal-Shekhar and Shubha Mudgal

Format: According to the format of the show, 12 kids between the age group of 10-16 compete with each other in terms of singing. Their mothers too have an important role to play; they have to sing in place of their kids when they come into the danger zone, to save them from being eliminated. The show is hosted by Ali Asgar and Akriti Kakkar.

Time slot: Saturday and Sunday, 9pm on Star Plus

Sitaron Ko Choona Hai

Judges: Raghu Ram

Format: Itís a show based on a music academy. There are three mentors (Neha Bhasin, Prashant Samadhar and Raghu Ram) who train 12 contestants in a proper training school. They all follow a strict regime under the head of the academy, Raghu. These mentors train the contestants on aspects such as sound checking, stage presentation, vocal training and more.

Time slot: Monday to Thursday, 8pm on Real
