Sai Gundewar is one of the contestant on Star Plus' Survivor India. The 33 year old businessman is a winner amongst women. A natural at impressing women and flirting with them, his charm is infectious. He runs his own health food business and is always open to taking new ideas on board. Sai also loves meeting new people and gaining new experiences. A food lover, Sai wants to move out of his comfort zone in respect to eating. Survivor Quotient: Natural charm should influence women You may have heard innumerable stories of castaways and people who've survived all odds in inhabitable conditions. Meet a couple of the Survivor India contestants as they prepare to overcome deadly obstacles, find their own food and live in isolation while stranded on a deserted island. Why are you on Survivor? Timmy Narang: For me the attraction was the physical and mental challenge that the show posed. I looked at it as an individual challenge, as I usually have all the comforts and luxuries. Everything is always at my beck and call, so this will be a welcome change. It will serve as a test for me and I want to pass this test at all costs. Sylvie: I wanted to challenge myself and this opportunity came at the right time and so I decided to take it up. I'm also a very adventurous person and thought this would definitely be one adventure trip. In my opinion age is not important to participate in anything that interests you. I feel young and ready to take on this challenge. What are your preparations for the show? Timmy Narang: I haven’t really made any preparations, as I didn't feel that anything could put me in order for the challenges. I did try to give up some comforts, like not being in my air conditioned room and sitting in the sun for a bit. It lasted however only for 15 minutes. I also tried walking on some bamboo sticks, but that too was not quite successful. I have mentally made up my mind that I would take each day as it comes and each hour as it is. Sylvie: I had not seen the international Survivor series before and hence did not really know the effort that would be required. So I didn't really make any preparations. However when they were shortlisting contestants for the show, they had us do various tasks, they would throw us into a pool or make us jump over tyres and several other things. So after I went through all this, I was selected to be a participant on the show. So physically there was no real preparation from my side. As for my mental state of mind, I am very strong mentally and I'm always prepared for anything in life. What will you miss the most on the island? Timmy Narang: Since I come from the hospitality industry, food has always been available to me anytime and in the manner that I wish to have it. I will definitely miss this as I am used to my meals being prepared in this way. I am also a health-conscious person and like to eat my meals on time, and so that will probably be something I miss. Sylvie: I adore my bedroom, it is beautiful and pretty and my bed is the most comfortable. I think I will miss my bedroom and my bed the most. Apart from this I will miss the regular comforts that I have at my home. |

For most of us, trying to get through even a single day without our cellphones, the internet, hot water and other materialistic comforts is unimaginable. What would you do if you are stranded on an island with unknown people? Well, here's what a handful of our Survivor India contestants have to say about how they will cope up on a deserted location.
![]() Why are you on Survivor? Priyanka Bassi: I think the concept of living alone on an island and having to endure all the hardships is a very challenging one. It’s my chance to explore another world and seems very adventurous. It will no doubt be very difficult. Rajesh Khera: I want to explore something beyond my regular life. The experience of staying without food, water and other comforts is fascinating. Curiosity has further egged me to take up the show. The format of show gives living on the edge a whole new meaning. I want to learn about my levels of tolerance and also see how people live with just the bare necessities. What are your preparations for the show? Priyanka Bassi: One of the physical criteria for the show was swimming. So I took up swimming classes for a month. Apart from that I did regular workouts including jogs and walks. Rajesh Khera: I tried to improve my swimming skills as I am told that many of the tasks will involve going underwater. Staying underwater for long is another thing I have practiced. Obviously, mental preparation for survival with basic necessities was important too. What would you miss most on the island? Priyanka Bassi: I like to have a nice hot cup of tea throughout the day, so that’s one thing that I will miss the most. Besides, I will definitely miss my personal quilt and finally snacking on gol gappas. Rajesh Khera: I would definitely miss my home and other comforts that I will not have on the island. |

Surviving in an uninhabited location with strangers is not one of the easiest things to do. So why will you want to leave all your comforts and live on an island? Here's what a few more of the Survivor India contestants have to say about that, the kind of preparations they've made and more.
Why are you on Survivor?Sangram Singh: I have been representing our country for nearly 12 years now, and faced some really tough challenges in life. With the show’s format being closest to reality, I want to test myself further. JD Majethia: I want to move out of my protected environment and comfort zone. Everyday we face challenges, but we are equipped enough to meet them. I want to see how I can handle challenges in a primitive set up and without any support system. I want to test my skills and see if I still have that fire in me which I had when I first started my career. I hope to enjoy every moment and experience the best vacation of my life. Munisha Khatwani: It was a challenging opportunity to give up all my comforts and hence I took it up. Moreover my brother is a huge fan of the international Survivor series, so he kept saying that he would like me to do it, but it's too difficult for me. This made me keener to accept it. Lastly, I am a bit overweight and I see this as a good chance to knock off the extra weight! What are your preparations for the show? Sangram Singh: I have done a number of reality shows in the past and have made no preparations at all. I do think however the experience will be very different this time. The challenges we are going to face will be very tough. JD Majethia: Oh! I’ve prepared myself in many ways. I’ve learnt cooking without salt and eating food that I cook. I have also been having a bath with cold water, trained to climb a coconut tree and made myself physically stronger. Since I’m not a very good swimmer, learning the techniques of underwater swimming and jumping in a pool from heights was necessary. I am a very organized person, so I have worked out how my office will function without me too. As for my family, I am giving them videos of myself and some cute moments that we have shared together so that they don’t miss me. Munisha Khatwani: I improved my workout regimen, so that I would have better stamina. Meditation and reading the Ramayana is another thing I’ve done regularly to improve my mental strength. What are you going to miss the most on the island? Sangram Singh: I will miss my food the most - avla, milk and chyavanprash among others. Besides, I am a pure vegetarian so everything about my food actually. JD Majethia: I will miss my family the most. You know my parents live in Mathura, and I call them up at least once a day. So I am going to miss them a lot. Munisha Khatwani: The list is long…my family, friends, a clean bathroom since I am a hygiene freak and my own bed. I am a big foodie too, so good food is another thing I hope I can stay long without. |

An uproar of waves and a mound of rock everywhere – can you survive in desolation and exile on an island with strangers? What is it that makes Survivors? We got the dope straight from a few contestants all geared up to participate in STAR Plus’ highly-anticipated show, Survivor India. Here’s what they have to say...
Why are you on Survivor?Shilpa Saklani: I am on Survivor simply for the experience. I don’t think any other show can give me the chance to test myself like this. While I truly believe I am a strong person, I feel handicapped without my mother and husband. So I want to see if I can handle myself without their help, love and support. Karan Patel: I want to challenge myself in all respects and see how strong I can be both mentally and physically. I think this is the best show that can help me do that. Abhinav Shukla: Well, I am doing Survivor India simply because of the challenges it would hold. I am an adventure freak and go on routine camps and treks. I love pushing myself to the limits. I also want everyone to know the real Abhinav Shukla, and obviously I am being paid for it! What are your preparations for the show? Shilpa Saklani: I hate going to the gym and I gorge on junk food every 2 hours a day. My husband nags me a lot for this. Hence I’ve tried to go to the gym at least 3 days a week so that I can be fit and start eating healthy. Karan Patel: I am going there with no expectations in my mind, except being mentally prepared. Once you are part of the Survivor gang, you can’t back out. So I am just hoping to go with the flow. Abhinav Shukla: I’ve just got my pyjamas stitched with patches, and practiced on mental focus to stay in complete wilderness. What are you going to miss the most on the island? Shilpa Saklani: I know it will sound clichéd, but my husband, mum and dog are what I am going to miss the most. I also love junk food a lot, so that’s another thing that will be very difficult for me to live without. Karan Patel: It may sound a little stupid, but I will miss my bathroom the most, because I am told we will have to relieve ourselves in the open. Abhinav Shukla: I am going to miss my adventure gear and trekking equipment the most besides my cars and bikes. |
