'I never thought I will win:' Rajrani, winner of Survivor India

Munisha Khatwani's predictons for the winner came true when Rajrani won the season 1 of Star Plus’ reality show Survivor India. JD Majethia, Rajrani and Sthitpragya Mohan were the contestants strived through thick and thin and managed to make it to the top three defeating other 22 contestants on the show.

The jury chose Rajrani, a hockey player from Chandigarh over the other two contestants. The jury consisted of Rohit Narang, Munisha Khatwani, Abhinav Shukla, Payal Rohatgi, Sangram Singh, Harrison and Shivam all of whom believed JD did not exist in the competition at all, so they chose between Sthitpragya and Rajrani.


It was party time for Rajrani as she walked away with the winner’s trophy on the first series of the Survivor India where they had to survive for 45 days without any basic amenities of life. Rajrani became popular among the contestants because of her mental strength, positive and game winning attitude unlike others who concentrated more on mind games.


An overwhelmed Rajrani said, “It is indeed a very big thing for me to win the title of Survivor India.I would like to thank Star Plus and JD Majethia without whom this would not have been possible. 1 crore is a huge amount that I never thought I will win.”

Top 3 Finalists were JD Majethia, Rajrani and Sthitpragya Mohan. All three were promising contestants and they managed to survive the tough conditions on an island in Philippines coast and sealed their positions in the final three (there were 22 contestants in the show)

Now, yesterday (7 March 2012) the show's finale was shot wherein the seven panel jury members consisting of eliminated contestants voted and announced the name of the winner.

And our sources have confirmed that Rajrani, a hockey played from Chandigarh, has emerged as the winner of the first series of Survivor India. Majority of the jury members voted in her favor.

"The celeb members were against JD as they thought he played politics in the series. On the other hand, Rajrani was a strong contender and won many tasks and challenges," the source went on to say.

The finale episode is expected to air on 25 March 2012.

Semi-finals JD wins the immunity challenge on day 42. Rajrani, JD, Shivam and Sthitpragya remain loyal to their group and vote against Abhinav at the tribal council. Day 43, Sthitpragya wins immunity and becomes the first finalist of Survivor India. They face the tribal council where Abhinav joins the other jury members. Rajrani wins the tie-breaker and Shivam is out of the game. The top three finalists burn down their shelters to celebrate the end of their journey on the island.

Raj Rani is a state level hockey player and comes from a small town in Haryana. Raj Rani is in great shape and can give everyone, including the men on Survivor, tough competition. She is a headstrong girl, who supports her family and feels that women are equal to men. Raj Rani has a lot of strength and can take on anyone easily. Her nature is to always complete any task that she undertakes. She has dreams of playing hockey for her country someday.

Survivor India: 'Jury should not consider the past'

The grand finale of Survivor India has turned out to be an explosive affair. The tension was palpable between Rohit Narang and finalist JD Majethia, who were the major masterminds of the series.

Among the top three survivors - Sthitpragya, Rajrani and JD, the jury has power to choose the winner of the show that comprises of seven members – Rohit Narang, Munisha Khatwani, Abhinav Shukla, Payal Rohatgi, Sangram Singh, Harrison and Shivam.

An excited JD shares, “I had never thought I would even reach the top ten, but Survivor India is a totally different trip. I’m glad I stuck to my principles. Whether it was individually or as a group, I always tried to give my best. I stood by strength and yes, I did have some strategies later on but ensured that I played a fair game. See, the three of us are not bodybuilders, but people who maintained our decorum and polite demeanour. I hope the jury behaves in a mature manner and takes the right decision. They should understand the real meaning of ‘jury’ while casting their vote and not consider the past incidents. But I know many are disappointed by me, and I and am not expecting them to vote for me.”

The calm and composed Sthitpragya reveals, “I am glad to have reached the top three. What really worked in my favour I think is staying out of the limelight and keeping a low profile. I always tried to maintain a middle ground approach and kept away from strategies and politics. The other contestants thought of me as an underdog and that really was an advantage for me!”


Rajrani though has something else to say, “There were people like Payal who after winning just one immunity challenge were flying high. My biggest strength I believe was my fitness, and I’m really happy to be here. It is my will power that has brought me so far in the game and nothing else. Though I must thank JD sir also, if it were not for him, I wouldn’t have been in the top three.”

Even though the jury members are not in favour of JD and think he is non-deserving, the finalists Sthitpragya and Rajrani give due respect to JD and hold no grudges against him. They appreciate the way JD conducted himself throughout the game and accredit JD why, they think, they are in the final.

Survivor India: 'JD will not be a winner'

Yes, you read that right! The chances of JD Majethia becoming the winner of Survivor India are zero percent. And no, we are not making any predictions, these words come out from the horses' mouth.

The Survivor India final judgment was shot recently in Mumbai and during the press interctions with the jury members, this is what we derived. Earlier, we reported that JD, Rajrani and Sthitpragya have made it to the finals.

The jury consists of a panel of seven eliminated contestants - Harrison, Rohit, Munisha, Abhinav, Shivam, Sangram and Payal. The winner of Survivor India will be decided by majority votes from among the jury members. Now if this is the only way to win, JD has lost all possibilities of being a winner, seeming the way he conducted himself throughout the season.

Sure, he never involved himself in ugly fights with anyone. But he came across as a boring individual who talks too much and ends up giving too many free advices and suggestions. So much that Abhinav even referred him as 'mother' of the pack. Time and again, his ideologies did not match with other members of the tribe and he was retained in the game only considering him a strong player.

But at the finale, the jury members had a lot to say about JD and why they feel JD is not a winner for them. Even as they kept their votes reserved, they did not fail to make it clear that they are not voting for JD! This is what they had to say:

Harrison: "According to me both Rajrani and Sthitpragya deserve to win. The decision will depend on votes of all the jury members. But JD will not win the show."

Rohit (Timmy) Narang: "According to me either of Rajrani and Sthitpragya should win Survivor India. JD cannot win as he is non-deserving. If the name of the show was 'Dhokebaaz Number One,' then definitely JD would have won. But not Survivor India. I think he always tried to be a leader. But he should go back to his production house and be a leader there, not on Survivor."

Munisha Khatwani: "I think JD is a shrewd player. He was the mastermind. He does not deserve to be in the game. As concerns the winner, I will vote either for Rajrani or Sthitpragya, both of them equally deserve to be the winner."


Abhinav: "I'll vote for either Rajrani or Sthitpragya, but not JD. Both of them are strong players, they've played the game well."

Shivam: "I want Sthitpragya to win the game."

So there, you see? Out of seven votes to be cast to decide the winner, five are already not voting for JD. At least they say so. Do you think JD still stands a chance to win?

Survivor India: Who gets eliminated in double elimination this week? (10-03-2012)

The competition just got dirtier last week when Rajrani and Payal Rohatgi spat dirty abuses at each other. This week will see a double elimination with six contenders on board, viz., Payal, Abhinav, JD, Sthitpragya, Shivam and Rajrani.

With Rajrani not in good terms with Payal, Payal stands a sureshot chance to get eliminated as Rajrani has stronger support of fellows on the island. She will be seen trying to make up with Abhinav to save herself and remain in the competition.

Little does she know that Abhinav too stands little chances or survival. And even before you watch the survivors perform the task, we have let the cat out of the box. Payal and Abhinav face the heat this week and join the jury members - Rohit, Harrison, Sangram and Munisha!

STAR Plus' adventure reality show Survivor India is heading for an interesting finale. And .com brings out for you the name of the finalists. According to our source, JD Majethia, Rajrani and Sthitpragya Mohan are the three names that will vouch for the Survivors title. As we saw in Saturday's episode both the former tribes(Catan and Tayak) were dissolved and a new tribe, Wala Wala, named after a poisonous snake of Philippines was formed that comprises of remaining five members each of the earlier tribes.

According to the new format, each eliminated contestant will from now on become a part of a jury (Timmy Narang and Harrison are the first 2 members of the 7 members jury panel). The remaining 3 contestants will vie for the crown before the same jury who they had ousted to get to the top three. Our reliable source tells that the three finalists (JD Majethia, Rajrani and Sthitpragya Mohan) appeared before the jury and were subject to some intense grilling on the last day of shooting on Caymon islands. The final votes of the jury have been locked in a box and will only be opened on 6 March 2012, when the finale episode is shot.

The Total Votes is the number of votes a castaway has received during Tribal Councils where the castaway is eligible to be voted out of the game. It does not include the votes received during the final Tribal Council.

^1 Rajesh was voted out in a 4-3 tie-breaker vote between himself and Michael. In the initial vote, both received four votes each, while in the tie-breaker vote, Rajesh received four votes and Michael received three.

Payal Rohatgi was born on November 9, 1980 in Hyderabad, India. She is the daughter of Veena Rohatgi and Shashank Rohatgi. She has a brother named Gaurav Rohatgi. She was brought up in a middle class family and grew up in Ahmedabad in Gujarat. A computer engineer from L.D. College of Engineering, Ahmedabad by profession. Payal studied in Udgam School. Payal Rohatgi won the title of Miss Tourism World in 2001, against candidates from 65 countries. She was also a finalist at the Femina Miss India contest in 2000. These successes encouraged Payal to enter the entertainment industry and so she moved to Mumbai. She is approximately 5'6" tall, and her star-sign is Scorpio.

She started her career by modelling for popular brands like Amul, Nirma, and Nescafe. She gained attention after appearing in a television ad for Cadbury's Temptations Chocolates. Around this time she also appeared in music videos by rock band Silk Route and Indipop artist Kay Kay.

After her career in Bollywood took off, Payal has cut back on the number of products she endorses. However, she appeared along with cricketer Virender Sehwag in an ad film for Dabur's Lal Dantmanjan. The film was directed by Pradeep Sarkar(Incidentally both are somehow related to Vidhu Vinod Chopra as She acted in Munnabhai I and Pardeep Sarkar made Pareeneeta for him). She was also seen in an ad film for eveready battery with Amitabh Bachchan which was directed by Pradeep Sarkar in 2006.

Payal made her Bollywood debut in Harry Baweja's Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai?, a Hindi remake of the Hollywood teen flick American Pie. However, she went unnoticed in the multi-starrer. She shot into the limelight by doing some small budget films, but she seemed to have a change of heart as she realised that these small budget films were not of her sensibility as these films released badly and were shot badly.

In 2006, she signed her first A grade Bollywood film, 36 China Town, as one of the lead characters. The movie starred already established stars like Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, and Paresh Rawal. Even amongst all these stars she got noticed.

Later in that year, she appeared in the critically acclaimed Corporate where, ironically, she played the part of an item girl.

In 2007, she had her first release with Priyadarshan's film Dhol which was produced by Percept Picture Company. She played a positive second lead character, paired opposite Arbaaz Khan.

In 2008, she was seen in a cameo opposite Ranvir Shorey in PNC film Ugly Aur pagli which was released in August 2008. On September 12th she shall act in another role opposite Irfan khan in a TV18 film Dil kabaddi. She will be playing the role of an aerobics instructor and sports a very toned , lean look in the film.

Also in 2008 she is one of 14 contestants to take part in reality show Bigg Boss 2.

Survivor India, the adaptation of the international reality show will hit the small screen from January 6 on Star Plus.

It's essentially about 22 contestants who battle for survival on an isolated, uninhabited island, in conditions that will test their physical and mental endurance.

As the contestants fetch their own food and build their own shelter, they will be pitted against each other in tests of strategy. In every episode, the contestants will vote one among them off the island.

The opening season of Survivior India has 11 ordinary people and 11 celebrities from different walks of life.

Payal Rohatgi

The spunky actress's claim to fame was her participation in Bigg Boss season 3. She is the controversy queen and scandal seems to follow her.

She was romantically linked with fellow housemate Rahul Mahajan and later accused him of physically assaulting her. Last year, she accused filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee of molesting her.

She agreed to do Survivor because "I was offered good money and also it was a big challenge because I didn't know how long I would last."

She says she was soon dubbed the weakest link on the show and so began working really hard. "It is difficult to live in rain, without shelter, food, toothbrush and toilets. But you get used to it after a few days. That was the most challenging part of the show."

Payal is also doing a film opposite wrestler and boyfriend Sangram Singh, who's also a part of Survivors. "I knew Sangram much before the show but got close to him only during the show because I got along with him. Right now we are dating each other and work is our priority," she says.

Jamnadas Majethia has given us enough reason to laugh through his hugely popular comedy shows Instant Khichdi and Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. He participated to prove to his kids that he is a Super Dad.

There were reports that Majethia insured himself for a huge sum because he was afraid of what he would encounter.
