Fashion: One of the few breakthrough movies in the Bollywood industry, Fashion, took us behind the glamour of the spotlight and the ramp. Narrated from the point of view of Meghna Mathur (Priyanka Chopra), a supermodel, this movie with its plot covering the highs and lows of a supermodel’s life, is indeed one of the best Fashion Films in Bollywood.

Aisha: For the first time in the history of Bollywood films, the movie tied up with international fashion greats like Salvatore Ferragamo, Christian Dior and Chanel! This chick-flick had girls drooling over the various looks of Aisha, a modern adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma, which was played by Sonam Kapoor. Even though the movie received mild reception, we absolutely love it for the fashion statement in the movie! Rangeela: Noted that Rangeela isn’t a fashion movie. But it definitely was a turning point in the graph of Bollywood’s fashion. It was the first time that costume designing was given recognition in a movie with Manish Malhotra bagging Filmfare’s first Costume Design Award for Urmila’s look. And we must mention that Urmila was absolutely stunning as Mili the actress. Needless to say, we will never forget three things from this movie: the songs, the dance steps, and Mili’s look! Confessions of a Shopaholic: After this movie came out, being a shopaholic came to be touted as a cool thing for every fashion lusting woman! We absolutely love this movie for the protagonist’s fashion sense. ‘The Girl in the Green Scarf’ is a character which was ‘fashionably’ flawed and hence, easily relatable to many women out there. |

Dostana: Dostana was quite a breakthrough in Bollywood as it was one of the first commercially successful movies revolving around homosexuality. It was also the first Bollywood movie which was entirely filmed in Miami. And, it had one of the most memorable character styling! Priyanka’s sizzling bikini tops, John Abraham’s shorts and Abhishek’s scarf-over-shirt look, all had a distinctive touch to it. Priyanka’s role as the fashion magazine editor was well justified by the clothes she wore. Sex and the City: The ultimate chick-flick, this movie developed from the TV series of same name, won New York fashion and New Yorkers a global recognition. Four women talking about every ‘girlie’ thing under the sun, gossiping away to glory while flaunting those high-end fashion ensembles turned out to be the success formula for this hilarious fashion film! Dhoom 2: We have included this movie in the list of Top Fashion Films for the distinctive look which every character was styled with. From Hrithik Roshan’s raw ‘shirtless’ look to Aishwarya Rai’s well-cut ‘sexy & short’ outfits, this movie was fashionably innovative and different. |

Sweet Home Alabama: The narrative of Melanie Carmichael, a successful fashion designer in NYC, is less of a fashion film and more of a drama, agreed. But she has a chic fashion style which is undeniably one of the best we have seen. We love her choice of sophisticated and elegant designs which reeks of sexiness in simplicity. Breakfast at Tiffany’s: Breakfast at Tiffany’s will always be remembered for two things: Audrey Hepburn and the iconic black dress! Audrey Hepburn immortalised the role of Holly Golightly, the eccentric socialite with such charisma and ease that it made Breakfast at Tiffany’s one of the best amongst the many fashion films. The Devil Wears Prada: Miranda Priestly, the arrogant editor-in-chief of Runway fashion magazine was a character which inspired many women to take up a career in fashion magazine! Her bossy attitude, several assistants at hand and rich clothes epitomised fashion magazine industry in a way which had never been done before. |

The September Issue: One of the best documentaries on the Fashion industry, The September Issue focuses on Anna Wintour, the editor in chief of American Vogue, and her editorial team as they run around the plush carpeted office preparing the September issue of Vogue. If you want a slice of what really goes on behind the glossy papers of these fashion magazines, this documentary is a must-watch! The Seven Year Itch: This classic movie with one of the most popular scenes of Marilyn Monroe in her iconic white dress would leave any list, sans it, incomplete! Even though Marilyn’s role as a model had less to do with fashion and its industries, and more with her personal life, the fashion styling in this movie requires a special mention. |
