So after months of speculation the Samsung Galaxy S III has now been officially unveiled. The device features 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD display, 8-Megapixel camera with zero shutter lag, 1.4GHz Samsung Exynos 4 Quad processor, 1GB of RAM, 2,100 mAh battery, a MicroSD card slot and it runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Like rumors suggested, the device will be initially available in two colors – Blue and White. The device will be available in three storage options — 16GB, 32GB and later 64GB.
The device also features a new version of TouchWiz which Samsung calls the Nature UX and also features a 2-megapixel front facing camera. While many expected Samsung to unveil S-Cloud, however the Samsung will bundle 50 GB of Dropbox storage for two years. The device will also come bundled with an Android version of the popular iOS news aggregation app Flipboard.
The camera on the S III not only has zero shutter lag but can shoot 20 images in burst mode and has a feature called best shot. And just like the HTC One X, the device can simultaneously shoot video and stills.
Interestingly, as rumors suggested the device features an eye tracking functionality to keep the screen on when the user is looking at it. In addition to this, the device feature a feature called S-Voice which basically is a voice recognition software in the vain of ‘Siri’ on the iPhone 4S. This software supports eight languages.
The device also features an interesting twist on the Android beam feature introduced in the Galaxy Nexus which Samsung calls S-Beam. This feature marries NFC with Wi-Fi direct technology.
Another innovation introduced in the device is called Pop up Play, which enables picture in picture functionality in a smartphone. Samsung is also introducing a wireless charger, something again that was rumored.
Notably, at 133 grams and 8.6mm the device is slightly heavier than its predecessor and its direct competitor the HTC One X, however in contrast to earlier report the device does not come equipped with a ceramic back, but rather has the same Samsung plastic build.
The device will be available on May 29 in Europe and will later launch globally.
