Who's the most controversial of them all?: This year has been marked by controversies, right from the ban on director Prakash Jha's film Aarakshan to Pakistani model-turned Bollywood item girl Veena Malik's nude photo shoot for the popular men's magazine FHM.

Actor Aamir Khan raised many eyebrows when he appeared on the same platform as social activist Anna Hazare. While no one questioned his right to expression, he was accused by the media of using the popular platform for promoting his film ventures.

Director Prakash Jha said he does not want to blame anyone for the controversy over 'Aarakshan' that led to the film being banned in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh. Jha had to move the Supreme Court against UP government's decision to ban the film for two months while Punjab and Andhra Pradesh agreed to release the film after minor cuts. UP released the movie after the apex court ruled in favour of Jha. The director, however, admitted that he suffered losses in these states because of the ban.

Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan who became a granddad this year got caught in the controversy over renaming Bhopal as 'Bhojpal', an idea floated by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan but opposed by a majority of Bhopalis. Activists said that being an outsider, the super star has no right to endorse the name Bhojpal for Bhopal. The state government in February proposed to change the capital city's name to honour the memory of philosopher-king Raja Bhoj.

Actress Bipasha Basu sparked off a controversy after her voice was alleged to have figured in taped conversations with former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh. Bipasha herself has denied that it's her voice in the controversial tapes, which were barred from publication in the media since 2006 until Wednesday when the gag order was lifted by the Supreme Court.
