Braving showers, youngsters give finishing touches for the festive season

With just a day left for Vinayaka Chavithi, intensified activity for setting up pandals and preparations for installation of idols was on at a feverish pitch in the city on Tuesday.Braving intermittent showers and raising ‘Ganapati bappa moriya' slogans, members of different youth and welfare organisations were seen transporting the Ganesh idols in myriad forms and sizes, in trucks, vans and other vehicles. Right from erection of pandals to the arrangement of sound systems, youngsters were busy giving finishing touches for the festive season.

Shops agog with activity
Competing with each other in setting up colourful pandals and necessary paraphernalia to make the festival a grand one, these organisations were putting in extra efforts.

Stalls
Stalls offering different types of Ganesh idols at Narayanguda, S.R.Nagar, Koti, Monda Market, Secunderabad and Dhoolpet were teeming with customers. Similar was the situation at stationery and general stores with youngsters thronging them for decorative items.
With costs of different materials increasing considerably this year, budgets too have shot up predictably. “Compared to last year, prices of sound systems, idols, transportation charges have gone up by at least 20 per cent.

Last year, our budget was Rs.1.50 lakh but this year, we had to pool in more money,” says Ch. Srinivas, president of Brahmanwadi Welfare Association, Begumpet.However, this year many organisations appear to have done away with the practice of collecting donations from residents.
“Majority of the money is donated by our friends living abroad and parents and relatives,” informs E. Navaneet, member of Bajrang Dal Nav Yuvak Sangh at Badichowdi.

Increase in idols
Last year about 45,000 idols were installed at different colonies in the city and this year, the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi is expecting the number to cross 50,000.The police and the samithi have appealed to the organisers not to use DJ music set-up or play film songs, but were requested to play devotional songs and others that promote national integration, says Dr. Bhagwanth Rao, General Secretary of Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi.

This could easily steal fame from twenty two foot idol that was made by famous sculptor Vijay Khatu that was installed in Ganesh Gali. There is one more renowned madal GSB Seva Kings Circle, mandal grows their Ganesh idols size every year, however it is remain has huge attractiveness to catch huge mass’s attention. In spite, the truth that this will only be seventeen feet big this year. The idol will be decorated with huge quantity of bling in city, silver and gold jewellery of sixteen crore rupees.


Undoubtedly the biggest Ganesh idol is the Lalbaugcha Raja as usually. Apart from these there are some other mandals who also want to receive the award of tallest Ganesh idol placing mandal. This celebrations was stared on 11th September 2010 called as "Vinayaka Chaturthi" and ends on 22nd of September. On the last day Ganesh idol is emerged into the water and that day is called as "Ananth Chaturthi". The tallest and biggest Ganesh idol in Hyderabad is placed at Khairatabad (Secunderabad). In this year 2010, the Lord Ganesha looks more beautiful. The idol is 50 feet tall. 500kg laddu is placed in on the hand of Lord Ganapati. The Ganesh idol was designed in a excellent way with 5 heads of Ganesh and fro the behind their is a 5 headed snake given shelter to the Lord Ganesha. It is best Ganesh idol at Khairatabad. At the right side of Khairatabad Ganesh it is designed with "Godesses Lakshmi and Lord Venkateshwara". And on right it is designed with a "Naga Davata" and a saint trying to kill her disciple. Top one tallest idol 76-feet is coming up at Lankavari Street in Gajuwaka. The president of the Sampath Vinayak Youth Association, Gajuwaka, Mr Jagadiswar Reddy, pointed out that last year the idol at Khairatabad in Hyderabad was just 65-ft tall. Gajuwaka too has got nine craftsmen from Bengal to work on their idol, which they claim will be “one of the best in the country.”

Hyderabad: For the past several years it is a Ganesha idol in Hyderabad that is crowned the tallest Ganesha in the country every Vinayaka Chaturthi. But this year is going to be different. Two Ganesh idols from Visakhapatnam have beaten the Hyderabad idol in the battle of sizes. So, a 76-feet tall Ganesha statue made in Vizag, with soil brought from West Bengal, is India's tallest.

But what's a festival atmosphere without some friendly contest. A Ganesha idol, again in Vizag, came a close second at 70 feet. But unlike idols which are taken to the nearest water body for immersion, these two idols will not travel to the beach and will have to make do with fire engines doing the job by throwing water at them, 10 days from now.

"70 per cent water and 30 per cent milk and vermillion will be used for the immersion. We have used only water colours for this idol," said a devotee.
