Now, here’s news that will bring a smile to your lips. All those millions out there who have been missing living legend R K Laxman’s comic strips on common man and his problems, it’s time to sit back and enjoy. SAB TV’s latest offering R K Laxman Ki Duniya is based on the works of the famous cartoonist and illustrator. The show, produced by Hats off Productions and Naman Raj Productions Pvt. Ltd, will go on air from 28 November 2011 at 9 pm.

The show will feature caricatures from R.K. Laxman’s work at the start of every episode which will later transform into living characters. When we asked the need for this effect, Dharmesh Mehta of Naman Raj Productions said, “We wanted R K Laxman’s cartoon effect to be a part of the series to increase the entertainment quotient of the show.”

Earlier, the cartoonist was actively involved in directing Wagle Ki Duniya, which was based on the characters created by him. But now that he is bedridden, his daughter-in-law will be a part of the show. “Dad is unwell, so I am looking after whatever is needed for R K Laxman Ki Duniya. Dharmeshji came to dad and asked for his permission. He agreed only on the condition that I will be involved in the show,” said Usha Laxman, R.K. Laxman’s daughter-in-law.

We wish that history repeats itself and this show goes on to become as big a hit as Wagle Ki Duniya!!!

What’s common in serials like Khichdi, Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai, Baa Bahoo Aur Baby, Behnein and Jasuben Jayantilal Joshi Ki Joint Family? Apart from having come from the esteemed Hats Off Productions, all the shows had a Gujarati background. In fact, in one of the many interviews he has given, Hats Off’s Producer JD Majethia gave to Indiantelevision.com, he did agree that he prefers opting for a Gujarati milieu in his shows because he himself is one. “One should work in a zone where the comfort levels are high. One should detect, tap and exploit his own strengths, only then he is truly creative,” he said.

However, he seems to have changed his mind now and doesn’t really accept his Gujju fetish, despite his new show R K Laxman Ki Duniya, having a Gujarati milieu. ““It all depends on the concept and making of any show and also in which theme it will be the most effective. We had to select any caste from our diverse country and we just happened to select a Gujarati family. If you notice, we also have a South Indian family in the parallel characters. In fact, Mrs Tendulkar had a Marathi background.”

Agreed, JDbhai. But now you seem to be back to your Gujju formula. Gujaratis, obviously have the Midas touch, as far as you are concerned. Even if you choose to deny it. All, we would like to say is good going!!!

J D Majethia and Dharmesh Mehta’s R K Laxman Ki Duniya on SAB TV gained eyeballs for its impressive promos. The show has a unique concept and it deals with the works and caricatures of renowned illustrator R K Laxman.

Now, .com brings to you exclusive dope on the show’s upcoming episodes. TV viewers will see a common man dealing with different problems in life. First issue will be on problems one has to face in order to get a proper treatment in hospital. The show will depict that doctors avoid needy people and take care of those who can flash money. Furthermore, it will also deal with the situation when a car or bike is towed from a non-parking zone and the difficulty one faces at the police station to get it back. The bottom line is that a common man has to bribe, plead or use other unfair means to get work done in this country.

“We face many situations in our day to day life. In the upcoming episodes, we will address some of them in a humorous and fun-filled way,” says Deepak Ghirwale, who essays the role of a common man (of yesteryear) in the show.

Furthermore, dealing with sensitive government issues on television is not an easy task for the producers. The buzz is that the production house took all necessary permission before beginning to shoot. “To deal with such production issues is job of a producer. I am just here to do my work,” Deepak Ghirwale went on to say.

Fair enough, Deepak. As long as the show is interesting and it entertains the masses, nothing else matters.

Vandana Pathak is a well known television actress. She has name TV shows to boast being a part of like Khichdi, Ek Mahal Ho Sapnon Ka, Yeh Meri Life Hai and Hum Paanch. Currently, she is seen in SAB TV’s R K Laxman Ki Duniya. The show is based on the works of Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan recipient-cartoonist R K Laxman.

Vandana plays a Gujarati housewife in the show who adores her husband. And while she is brilliantly playing the character of Bakula Vasavada, she draws inspiration from her mother. “My mother completely adores my father and even my character which is fondly known as Baku, just admires her husband,” Vandana tells .com.

“My mother respects my dad a lot and since I have seen her love for my dad, it had helped me portray this role,” adds the actress. Speaking more about her role, she said she is very similar to her onscreen happy-go-lucky avatar; “but I do get upset with things. However, I would love to be more like my character. She is very grounded and full of love.” The character comes from a small family and is not jealous of anyone. She also tells us that every character in the show is very sweet and positive.

“I am enjoying myself being a part of this sitcom,” ends Vandana.

In the month of February 2012, Mumbai got gripped with fear after the news flashed of some monkey man killing children and raping women. Though the cops rubbished everything as a “hoax” but fear still looms large in the hearts of Mumbaites residing in the suburban areas of the city. Now SAB TV’s show R K Laxman Ki Duniya, which deals with the issues in the life of a common man, is all set to incorporate the “monkey man” episode in the story plot, but in a humorous vein.

“A monkey man will attack Nutan Sahkari Colony and scare its residents. He will be eight feet tall and will go around kidnapping people. The upcoming episodes will be funny with a tinge of suspense,” shared a source.

And guess who will get kidnapped in R K Laxman…? None other than Bhavesh (played by Atul Parchure) and Mamu T (Sanjay Wadekar).

We talked to Vandana Pathak, who is seen as Bhavesh’s wife, and she said, “Bhavesh will go missing and later everyone will realise that monkey man has kidnapped him.”

We also talked to Atul who shared, “I and Mamu T will get kidnapped. Monkey man will take us to a jungle. But at the end we will manage to run away from his clutches.”
