Shilpa Shetty became the first Indian to win the celebrity edition of Big Brother. After facing the brunt of racist remarks mostly from now deceased contestant Jade Goody, Shilpa emerged victorious. What she said: "Are you kidding me?" Shilpa, after hearing that she had won. Status now: Post her win, Shilpa became a renowned name in the UK and even met the Queen. She recently married London-based businessman Raj Kundra and owns a seven-bedroom house, a restaurant in London and an IPL team bought by Raj. Jade Goody succumbed to cancer in March '09. |

Rights for same-*** couples?

Wendell Rodricks and Jerome Marrel were married in Goa via PACS, a French civil ceremony in 2003. Earlier, gay activist Ashok Row Kavi wrote an article on how the marriage would affect homo***uals' rights. What he said: ''Wendell and Jerome could go to jail for 10 years, or even for life." Kavi, in the article. Status now: In July 2009, the Delhi High Court struck down the provision in Section 377, which criminalises homo***ual, consensual *** between adults in private. Wendell and Jerome have been partners for over 25 years. |

Bappi Lahiri won the case he had filed in October 2002 against American hip-hop producer Dr Dre for lifting four minutes of inlay from his track Kaliyon ka chaman sung by Lata Mangeshkar, and used by Universal Music Group, without credit. Shockingly, this is the same composer who has ripped off several international hits including Billie Jean, Lambada and Brother Louie What he said: "Such a victory is a first for this nation." Bappi Lahiri. Status now: In 2007, electronica artiste M.I.A used Jimmy Jimmy from Bappi's Disco Dancer with due credit. And in August 2009, Bappi collaborated with Ricky Nelson for a musical tribute to king of pop Michael Jackson. |

Death of a siren

Twenty-four hours after she died, it was discovered that Parveen Babi had passed away. The yesteryear actress suffered from schizophrenia and lived alone for most part of her later years. What he said: "I will give her a dignified funeral." Mahesh Bhatt, who at one time was romantically involved with Babi. Status now: Many friends and relatives came out of the woodwork, claiming rights to her property worth crores. Based on the tapes that Babi had left for Bhatt, he produced the film Woh Lamhe. |

Pentagram singer hurls mike hurls

During a performance, rock band Pentagram's lead singer Vishal Dadlani hurled a six-foot mike at the audience because they were booing him. The stand hit a fan, 18-year-old Deepak Ashar, who got stitches below his eye and hence filed a case against the singer. What they said: "He (Dadlani) said I will come to your house and f*** your mom and she will pay me for it." Ashar. "It was not intentional." Randolph Correa, Pentagram guitarist. Status now: Dadlani and composer Shekhar are one the hottest music composer duos in the industry. |
