Back in action

Seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong announced on September 9, 2008, that he will be returning to competitive cycling for the 2009 season. Armstrong, who had retired from cycling in July 2005, will be racing for the Astana team. He has so far confirmed his participation in the Tour Down Under and Giro D'Italia in 2009, but is yet to confirm whether he will take part in Tour de France.

Calling it quits

Honda Motor Comapny announced on December 5,2008, that it is withdrawing from Formula One ahead of the 2009 season. The decision was taken as a result of the prevailing conditions in the automotive sales sector, including a near-unprecedented decline of more than 30 per cent in its biggest market, the United States, in November 2008. The company will not remain involved in F1 even as an engine supplier.
