Default CSC India Pvt Ltd



NYSE-listed IT Computer Sciences Corp is the 15th largest employer in India. Earlier this year, CSC appointed Vivek Chopra as President of its Indian operations.

In late 2008, US-based CSC announced that it would hire an additional 2,000 professionals for its India operations. CSC's India operations accounted for $1 billion worth of revenues in 2007-08.

India is CSC's largest world sourcing location outside the US. CSC acquired Covansys in July 2007 and First Consulting Group (FCG) in January 2008, which nearly doubled its India headcount. CSC has about 90,000 employees globally and reported revenue of $17.1 billion for the 12 months ended July 2008.

Mumbai-based Patni Computer Systems is the 16th largest IT employer in India. Patni derives major revenues from the US, followed by Europe, West Asia & Africa and Asia-Pacific.

Last year, Patni laid off close to 400 employees citing non-performance issues. The IT exporter said it was part of a routine appraisal exercise, carried out every year to weed out non-performers, and not related to any slowdown issues.

In the first quarter, Patni reportedly added 22 new clients which took its total active client number to 320. The number of million-dollar clients increased from 92 to 94 on a sequential basis. Revenue contributions by the Top 10 customers also decreased sequentially, from 48.7% to 46.9%.

The company has 27 sales offices across America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific, along with 22 global delivery centres located at strategic locations around the globe. It has vibrant and long-standing partnerships with more than 300 companies across the world.

At no. 17 is the wholly-owned IT subsidiary of $8.5 billion Larsen & Toubro, Larsen & Toubro Infotech. The company offers offer software solutions and services to companies in banking & financial services, insurance, energy & petrochemicals, manufacturing and telecom sectors.

According to Dataquest, the company which started operations in 1997 has 10,163 employees.

Default Hinduja Global Solutions Pvt Ltd



BPO services provider Hinduja Global Solutions is the 18th largest IT employer in India. The company which this week reported its quaterly results announced a consolidated net profit after minority interest of Rs 36.14 crore in the first quarter ended June 30, 2009, up 80.15% over the corresponding period a year ago.

In March the company announced that it has over 9,500 employees in the country out of which 2,500 are based in Chennai facility. The company had net profit after minority interest of Rs 20.06 crore in the June quarter last fiscal, Hinduja Global Solutions said in a filing with Bombay Stock Exchange.

The company was reported to be in the race to buy the beleagured IT services company Sataym Computers. Two years ago, it had made an attempt to purchase Hutchison's stake in Hutchison Essar but was outbid by Vodafone.

Default Oracle Financial Services Software Ltd



At no. 19th is Oracle Financial Services Software (called iflex Solutions before it was acquired by Oracle in 2007). Oracle Financial Services provides IT solutions to the financial services industry. The company reportedly employed around 11,000 people as of December 2008.

Late last year the company went on a strict cost cutting drive. Employees on the bench were given only 50% of their salary and were said to be asked to work for fewer hours a day.

Also, earlier this year, the government asked its parent company, Oracle India, to pay over Rs 230 crore as tax on the royalty paid to its US parent as franchise fee and for its receivables from services.

US-based Oracle Corporation operates in India through Oracle India. The parent firm has a software duplication and distribution licence agreement with the Indian firm. Oracle US is the franchiser and Indian firm is the franchisee having rights and authority to duplicate and sub-license its products in India.
