 City of Gold (2010) Mahesh Manjrekar's bilingual, titled Lalbaug Parel in Marathi, was based on the story of Mumbai's textile mills that closed down due to land deals, and how the workers' lives were affected by it so much that they took to crime.

 Bombay (1995) Mani Ratnam's Bombay starred Arvind Swamy and Manisha Koirala. The film was a love story with the backdrop of the Mumbai riots after the demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya. A.R. Rahman's music perfectly suited the mood of the film, including 'Bombay Theme', which he later used in international assignments.

 Sadak (1991) Another love story in the heartland of Mumbai's murky underbelly, this Mahesh Bhatt film was a hit. It starred Pooja Bhatt and Sanjay Dutt in lead roles. And of course, the unforgettable Sadashiv Amrapurkar who played a eunuch and pimp.

 Satya (1998) Directed by Ram Gopal Varma ad written by Anurag Kashyap and Saurabh Shukla, the film on Mumbai's underworld was a superhit. It made a star out of Manoj Bajpai. The film's lead stars were Chakravarthy and Urmila Matondkar. The film shows how a man comes to Mumbai wanting for a better life, but lands into the hands of the Mumbai underworld. He works for them, but meets a brutal end.
