Eden was in many ways the starting point
Indian Test cricket can be divided into two eras: Pre-281 and after. Probably no other knock by an Indian batsman has been as impactful as VVS Laxman's 452-ball gem in the second innings of the Eden Gardens Test in March 2001 and his 376-run stand with Rahul Dravid, who scored 180. Harbhajan Singh became the first Indian to take a hat-trick in Tests as India went on to win the game by 171 runs after following on, stopping Australia's 16-game winning streak in its tracks and giving a generation of players a booster shot of self-belief. Trent Bridge demolished demons
England will forever rue riling up Zaheer Khan with jelly beans in the second Test in July 2007. Zaheer had recently returned after a county stint, a fitter and fiercely determined pace spearhead. His performance at Trent Bridge fashioned a memorable series win. Zaheer picked up 18 wickets at 20, swinging the ball both ways. His match figures of 9/134, including 5/75 in England's second innings, ensured a 7-wicket win at Nottingham. |

Hamilton added to spin aura
With question marks over his overseas show, Harbhajan Singh rose to the task in the first Test at Hamilton in March 2009. On an unhelpful track, his remarkable 6/63 in the second innings fashioned India's first Test win in New Zealand (a 10-wicket romp) in 33 years and set up a series victory which had been 41 long years in the making. |

Adelaide changed world's view
The second Test in Adelaide in December 2003 was a reprise of Eden's come-from-behind heroics, with the same lead roles, only this time in the lion's den. Australia notched up 556 first-up and India were 85/4 when Dravid (233) and Laxman (148) put together 303. The rattled Aussies caved in to Ajit Agarkar in the second innings, leaving India 230 to win. Dravid remained unbeaten on 72. |
