CWG 2018: A look at strongest medal contenders from India
1/17  21st Commonwealth Games is to commence from today in Australia with 71 nationals participating and competing for medals, thus celebrating sports. India has sent the best contenders to have maximum account of golds in our court. Starting with shooting, Heena Sindhu is to represent India in the sport. She hails from Punjab and already has bagged . d three gold medals at the Commonwealth Championships few months back. She will be competing in the women's 25m pistol and 10m air pistol competitions. 2/17  Manu Bhaker will be playing alongside Heena in the 10m air pistol event. The 16-year-old has a record of clinching two golds her maiden senior World Cup just weeks ago. 3/17  Jitu will be lined up for men's 50m pistol event and 10m air pistol competition. The army shooter has high hopes to win medal for the country. 4/17  Javelin Thrower Neeraj is burdened with a lot of expectations with him being the only one representing this port from India. The 20-years-old had clinched a gold at last year's Asian Championships. 5/17  Seema has won a silver in the Glasgow Games, would be eyeing a golden end to her CWG stint. 6/17  The 19-year is belied to bring a medal to the country as he recently improved it from 2.26m to 2.28m. 7/17  Havign claimed the world champion title already, Mirabai Chanu is expected to open the gold rush for India. 8/17  A national figure now, Mary Kom will be making her CWG debut this year in Australia. The five-time world champion and Olympic bronze-medallist is a favourite to pick up the 48kg gold and make her first and last CWG a memorable affair. 9/17  Vikas has already clinched gold at the Strandja Memorial Tournament in Bulgaria in February. Like Mary Kom, Vikas will also be making his debut at the Games and would be a strong contender in the 75kg division. 10/17  The diminutive light flyweight 49kg boxer is also a debutant but one with quite a bit of experience of competing on the big stage. 11/17  Having claimed a gold medal in 2014 already, nation heavily relies for gold from the champion this year in Australia. The double Olympic medallist would be aiming for another gold when he competes in 74kg men's freestyle event. 12/17  The Rio bronze-medallist has been in good form and would be expected to better the silver medal she claimed at the Glasgow Games. She would be in action in the 62kg freestyle event. 13/17  Vinesh won a silver medal (55kg) at the Asian Championship and claimed the gold at National Championships. She would be a medal contender when she competes in 50kg this time. 14/17  Dipika Pallikal and Joshna Chinnappa, who had got gold for India in 2014 will again represent and hopefully get another gold. 15/17  The Olympic silver-medallist is being seen as a sure-shot medallist. She won a bronze in last edition and the world No.3 looks set to change the colour of the medal when she takes the court this time. 16/17  2010 gold-medallist Saina would be a strong contender for her strength if she manages to maintain her health. 17/17  Since ace badminton player Kashyap could not be a part of CWG this year, Srikanth would be representing India in men's singles.
