Rani Lakshmi Bai, the fiery Queen of Jhansi, also known as the Rani of Jhansi, was known for her bravery and is a role model for women in India. She was the exemplary ruler of Jhansi and had to take up the rule of her state after her husband’s demise at the young age of 18 years. She was one of the leading figures of the Indian Rebellion of 1857. She was born today on November 19, 1828, in Varanasi in a Marathi Brahmin family and was married to Maharaja of Jhansi, Raja Gangadhar Rao Newalkar. Her real name was Manikarnika but after her marriage was called Lakshmi Bai, she is also popularly called as Jhansi Ki Rani. She has earned a cult status in popular culture and the history of India as she led the first revolt against British rule. Rani Lakshmi Bai is seen as an epitome of valor, courage, and bravery who had the gumption of challenging the British rule and led an almost successful revolt. Today on her birthday on 19th November, television actresses like Avika Gor, Tejasswi Prakash, Kamya Punjabi among others pay her tribute.
