Default The Top-5 irritating ads

Some ads on TV make you go ‘Awwwww’ while some make you scream ‘Aaaaargh’ Here are 5 that leaves me completely exasperated! But I am sure all of you out there have your own list of ‘most irritating’ ads. We would love to publish it. So go right ahead and fill in the message boards. Meanwhile here are my top 5!

1.Max New York Life Insurance: Woman comes in from work. Asks for ‘saab’. Saab is on the terrace; unfortunately for us terrace is at a distance from the room, so all the way till the terrace the woman shouts out to ‘Sanju’… Her voice and incessant calling out to Sanju grates on one’s nerves. Solution? Channel switch ASAP or hit the mute ****on!

2.Idea’s Taj Mahal: Tourist guide Abhishek Bachchan is showing off the Taj Mahal to a bunch of tourists, including a pretty foreigner who is mute. ‘What an idea’ ironically is the catch phrase of this no brainer ad. Either Abhishek needs to change his dialogue delivery style and mannerisms, and get out of Pa’s shadow or Idea needs to change their model. The only nice thing in the ad is the woman who waves the card, cute! But the rest of it makes for channel switch!

3.Bingo chips: It is said that the most difficult thing in showbiz is to make people laugh. The entire series of Bingo ads with the mad scientist proves this right. It falls flat on its lab equipment while trying to evoke laughs – what with a pregnant guy and a moronic one who gets himself smashed several times over on several things.

4.Crabtree switches: The core concept of this communication of being able to switch off and on in certain situations in life has potential but its execution fails to deliver, giving the ads a deserving spot in this list. The one about the guy clinching a business deal after switching off the restaurant’s live band is contrived. Wonder how many of us would even to a restaurant with a live band for such a crucial meeting? The second one a bride’s tearful ‘bidaai’ makes a mockery of serious emotions and we are not even commenting on the bride and her non-existent histornics!

5.Crompton Greaves fans: Nosy and jealous neighbour once again! This story has been repeated ad nauseam and we can’t think of any ad that has worked with this story. The latest one is about a woman going “ooh and aah” at a neighbour’s new house, dying of envy till she sees vacant fan spot! Why? Because she has Crompton Greaves fan at home and she sits under her fan and with a very irritating saas-bahu serial expression goes…’Aaj main upar, zamana hain neeche!’ Yeah? Says who? Total thumbs down!

Your Shout: Which advertisement do you think is the most sickening, irritating and a total waste of time and money? Click here to send us your list of irritating ads and we will publish it.
