Padmaavat, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Pari: A look at films that made a mark in the first quarter of 2018
Bollywood delivered some films worth celebrating in the first quarter of 2018 A week after that came Akshay Kumar’s PadMan, which was inspired by the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social activist from Tamil Nadu who introduced low-cost sanitary pads. Given the kind of buzz that was created, there were a lot of expectations, but neither the critics nor the masses were really impressed with the R Balki directorial. Earning Rs 82.10 crore at the Indian box office, this film is the third highest grosser of 2018. This brings us to the second highest grossing film of the year so far, which surprisingly is Luv Ranjan’s Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. We always think that only big stars get the money, but Kartik Aaryan, Nushrat Bharucha and Sunny Nijar proved it wrong with their work in the movie, which connected well with the masses, especially the youngsters. Believe it or not, but the film has made more than Rs 100 crore at the box office, Rs 106.77 crore to be specific. Who would have thought? Ajay Devgn and Ileana D’Cruz’s Raid, which was inspired by the real life income tax raids that were conducted by the officers of the Indian Revenue Service in the 1980, also had everyone going gaga about it. It was especially Ajay’s brilliant portrayal of Amey Patnaik and Saurabh Shukla’s Rameshwar Singh that got a lot of appreciation. The Rajkumar Gupta-directorial ended up earning Rs 90.11 crore at the box office. Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety box office collection day 35: The comedy film rakes in Rs 106.77 crore Although Anushka Sharma’s Pari didn’t make as much money (Rs 28.70 crore) as the above mentioned the films, but it deserves to be in this list majorly because it changed the scene of the horror genre here in Bollywood. People who went to watch the film were really very scared with Anushka’s witchy act. It is definitely one of the good horror films that has come out of the Hindi film industry, there are no two ways about it. : Will Ajay Devgn’s Raid cross the Rs 100 crore mark at the domestic box office? And lastly we have the recently released, Hichki, which marks the comeback of Rani Mukerji on the screen after a gap of almost three years. Rani plays an aspiring teacher having Tourette syndrome, who must prove herself by educating a group of underprivileged students. The film is an adaptation of Brad Cohen’s autobiography Front of the Class: How Tourette Syndrome Made Me the Teacher I Never Had. People were excited to see Rani back on the 70mm and the praises that she has been getting for her brilliant act in the film have had many people frolicking to the theatres. The movie has made Rs 26.10 crore in just one week, which is quite a remarkable feat. Stay tuned to CNN18.com for all the latest scoops and updates. |
