With most of the children staying at home during the
Coronavirus lockdown,
Netflix has unveiled a series of updates. These updates aimed at helping parents, guardians, caregivers, and elders set the right limits for their children. Now, you can block an individual series or film by name, which will not appear in the child’s profile at all. Earlier, individual titles were locked behind only one pin. Of course, if this sounds like too much work, you can always filter titles based on age categories, which are now country-specific, Netflix says. In India, Netflix offers “All”, “7+”, “13+”, “16+”, or “18+” content.
The company is also extending the pin-control feature to all profiles. It means you can now lock adult profiles with four-digit codes and prevent children from accessing them. Parents can also browse what children are watching in their Netflix profiles. This feature will help them decide what kind of content is appropriate for their kids. Finally, you can turn off the auto-play option for children’s profiles only, which is supposed to look like binge and reduce addiction.
The new parental controls are now available on Netflix.com in a dedicated “Profile and Parental Control” hub within the “Account” setting. Therefore, to change them, you have to open Netflix in a
browser on a laptop or mobile device. You can’t do this in a
Netflix app, unfortunately.
Michelle Parsons, Netflix’s product manager for children, said: “Choice and control have always been important to our members, especially parents. We hope that these better controls will help parents make the right choices for their families. “
