Rajinikanth is not just an actor but a phenomenon that hit South cinema since 1975. His talent, swag, attitude, humility is unparalleled. He is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars, whose popularity has to be seen to be believed. It’s no wonder that he has earned the moniker, Thalaiva. Because he simply is. But did you know he is also the ‘Thalaiva’ of makeovers? This superstar, through the years, has done it all – whether it’s playing a robot in a sci-fi film, or a gangsta’, or a gutsy architect, or most recently a don. The ease with which he slips into each of these roles is admirable. From going bald to sporting a salt-n-pepper beard, he aces every look. Here’s looking at various avatars of Rajinikanth that proved to be a major hit and thereafter style statements…
Baasha: When Rajinikanth wrapped a scarf around his neck, it left everyone impressed. This poster of the actor, seated on a throne with a dog beside him, is an iconic still. While we will continue to bring up his swag, it’s his look that has us distracted. With the scarf, he added a ‘Rajinikanth’ touch to his otherwise casual look.

Padayappa – No mention of Padayappa is complete without talking about the superstar in his white kurta, shawl and sunglasses. The scene, where he pulled down the swing to take a seat was, and will always be, one of the most popular moments of this cult film. While a white kurta did not boast of unusual style, it was his swag and attitude that brought the ‘extra’ in the ordinary.

Sivaji – For this movie, he went bald and bowled us over! The slick bald look teamed with a french beard was another makeover this actor pulled off effortlessly. He proved with this avatar, that nothing was too much for him!

Enthiran – Just when we were wondering what Rajinikanth could possibly do next, along came two avatars in Shankar’s sci-fi film – One as Dr Vaseegaran and one as Chitti the Robot. The latter esepcially had us fall for a robot and that is something only Rajinikanth could have made happen. The deadpan look along with the glares and the blingy suit was enough to make Chitti one of the most popular characters.

Lingaa – Lingaa was all about being stylish! From long scarves to jackets to waistcoats, Rajinikanth put his fashionable foot forward for this movie. The movie may have bombed but his avatar surely didn’t.

Kabali – Rajinikanth was returning to the silver screen in 2016 after two years. He pleasantly surprised his fans when he sported salt-and-pepper hair and a beard to go with it. Needless to say, fans fell in love with his natural look. His stylish suits accentuated his makeover!

Kaal Karikaalan – In his latest film, he has maintained his salt-and-pepper beard but there’s a desi twist to it. The don will be seen in various kurtas teamed with the mundu. The first rushes of this film have us gushing over his avatar. While he’s a playing a gangsta’ in this film as well, his look is different from the one he sported in Kabali.

Now that we have shown you a few, which look of Rajinikanth do you like the most?
