'The show was indeed an experience for me' Four years was a long journey. Manjil Virinja Poovu was a great experience for me. 'Anjana is not the usual teary-eyed heroine you see' Anjana is close to my heart. She is not the same teary-eyed main protagonist you see in a TV serial. It is true that I had played the same in many shows before. But, Anjana is different. From the first episode where she was just a daily wager in the tea estate to now being the first female chief minister of Kerala, the character had gone through a lot. Even though there were emotional roller-coasters in the journey, Anjana was always bold and passionate. Playing the character for years, now I find it easy to get under the skin of the character.
I also feel privileged to play such a character who portrays woman empowerment in all possible ways. Anjana tries to break many stereotypes and I am proud that I could give life to such a progressive character. Now, I feel respected when someone calls me Anjana instead of Malavika.
'I loved playing the IAS officer' Luckily, I could play many avatars in the same show. However, my personal favorite will be playing the IAS officer. The sequence of going to Devikulam as the district collector still gives me chills. I loved the variations where I played a doting family woman as well as a strict government officer in the show. I would be so excited if I ever get to play such a character in a show too. I felt like I had got some superpower while I was playing the IAS officer.
The success mantra It is a proud feeling that Manjil Virinja Poovu is currently running as the longest serial on Malayalam TV. It is not about the number of episodes but the genuine love of the audience over the years that count. There is no success mantra, it is a team effort. From the strong script, talented artists, supportive crew, and hardworking production team, everything makes it a success. Manjil Virinja Poovu was indeed a game changer for actor Yuva Krishna. It is not often that an actor's debut gets such an acceptance. Yuva's character 'Manu' has undergone many transformations in the show and still continues to win hearts. Recently, in a candid chat with ETimes TV, Yuva opened up on his journey in the longest-running serial in Malayalam.
"Manjil Virinja Poovu is one of the major milestones in my life. It is rare that a hero gets such acceptance in his first serial and I owe it to my luck. I believe that more than hard work and smart work, it is luck that has to favor anyone. I thank the whole team who made me who I am now," he said.
Talking about his character 'Manu Prathap', Yuva shared that the character has given him all the possibilities to sharpen his s****.
"Playing Manu, I have done almost all the transformations possible for a serial hero. Actors rarely get such characters on TV, usually, they play the cliched sketch. But, my character gave me the possibility to explore all the shades, like a villain, romantic hero, doting husband, and more. When the team approached me, they just asked me to be myself on the screen, be it the way I walk or talk, they wanted it all exactly the same. Not my character though (laughs)," the actor shared.
Yuva added that he loved the villainic shade the most in Manu and enjoyed the sequence where Anjana got kidnapped by the goons.
When asked about the success of Manjil Virinja Poovu over the years, Yuva gives the credit to the engaging narrative of the show.
"The storyline is the key attraction of the show. It is different from the usual formula soaps you see on TV. Yes, we had all the needed masalas like extramarital affairs, and saas-bahu fights but they never overpowered the script. I also liked the element that every male character had its importance in the show despite being a women-centric story. Not just male characters, even a small cameo had its relevance."
He adds, "Another thing that made Manjil Virinja Poovu stand out is its picturization. When most serials are confined to the four walls of a house, our show started by exploring the serene beauty of Kattappana. The teamwork is also appreciable, from artists to technical crew, everyone works hard for the show."
