Default Anil's New Yr Gift To Tina: A 400 Cr Yacht

Close on the heels of his brother Mukesh Ambani gifting a Rs 250 crore corporate jet to his wife Nita last year, Anil Ambani has bought a super luxury yacht for wife Tina, pegged at around Rs 400 crore. An Anil Ambani spokesperson confirmed the purchase, but refused to disclose details. Named ‘Tian’, that combines the first two letters of both Tina’s and Anil’s names, the yacht is at present anchored near Gateway of India and will be used by the couple to usher in the New Year. According to highly-placed sources, owning a yacht was one of Tina Ambani’s long-cherished dreams. And now as owner of Tian, she enters the exclusive club of Gautam Singhania and liquor baron Vijay Mallya, whose luxury yachts are often anchored off Gateway of India.

Other yacht owners in India include the Bajaj Group, the Indiabulls Group, the Godrej Group, and auto maker Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd.

Tian was built in Genoa, Italy. It is about 34 metres long and cost around Euro 34 million to build. According to yacht building industry sources, the cost of each running metre of luxury yachts is Euro one million. The final cost to Anil Ambani could be around Rs 400 crore, inclusive of customs and excise duties and refurbishing, added sources. Usual custom-made yachts are 33 metres, but the Ambanis’ yacht stretches to 34 metres, defining its luxury. It has an approximate area of 5500 sq metres across the upper and lower decks, with six rooms plus a master bedroom with a customised bathroom.

Apart from this, there is a family entertainment bay, a spacious dining area where at least 16 people can do a sit-down dinner. The yacht is designed for long cruises with multiple cabins. It can stay out in sea for a week, with a fuel supply and storage capacity for eight days. “The yacht can be used to host private parties as well as corporate meetings,” added the source. Tina Ambani has also applied for the prestigious membership to the Royal Bombay Yacht Club (RBYC), pegging her a few notches up in the league of old money. An RBYC membership enables an individual or company to enjoy various sailing and training programmes the club undertakes. The club also offers maintenance support and anchor space.
