Default TOP 10: Music albums of 2009

Here's what played across cabs and clubs through the first three months of the year

2009 has been a dull year at the box-office with only a handful of average hits. But despite forgettable films, the year has already witnessed a few memorable albums. From the experimental Dev.D to the outright commercial Billu to even the situational Delhi 6, music lovers have had plenty to hum about. Yet making their presence felt on the charts were some chartbuster soundtracks of 2008. In fact thanks to the lack of good music these albums grew even more popular in the new year. Here's taking a look at what sound worked all through the first quarter of 2009:

10. Rock On:

Through his TV show and other non-film appearances, Farhan Akhtar made sure we didn't forget Rock On. As Abhishek Bachchan joked on Akhtar's show, Farhan looks for excuses to sing Meri Laundry Ka Bill…And though we agree with him, Rock On's music has made sure Farhan stays in public memory till Don 2 happens.

09. Raaz-The Mystery Continues

Recession or no recession, Bhatt's never fail to strike gold. From the first Raaz to its new version, no music countdown is complete without an album from this banner. The Sufiyana number Maahi was an instant chartbuster. But after the film's surprise success, its lesser known songs have also got noticed.

08. Luck by Chance:

Now this is one album that deserved to do better. A niche soundtrack by Shankar Ehsaan Loy, the songs fitted beautifully into the movie's narrative. But in an era of ring tones, the laidback sounds of this film didn't find mass acceptance.

07. Dev.D:

You'd have to be on Mars to miss Emosanal Atyachar. A smash hit from day one, this new age heartbreak anthem remains a national rage. In spite of being high on arrangements and gimmickry, Dev.D had a melodious score at its core. With the film turning out to be a hit, the 18 tracks have managed to break through even the anti-Hindi music brigade.
