Darwin Day 2018: Charles Darwin's Theory of Evolution and Contribution to Science Celebrated Across the World

Today is International Charles’ Darwin Day, a day to commemorate the anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin on February 12, 1809. The day is celebrated across the world to promote Charles Darwin’s contribution to science through his Theory of Evolution and also to promote the study and interest in the field of science in general. Darwin Day is an international observance and is celebrated around the world. The celebration of Charles Darwin’s work and tributes to his life has often been organized in spurts since his death on April 19, 1882, at the age of 33. Charles Darwin is well known for the contribution to the science of evolution, and he established that all species come from a common ancestor and published his theory jointly with Alfred Russel Wallace. His book On the Origin of Species talks about the Theory of Evolution.

Charles Darwin was an English naturalist, geologist, and biologist who is well known to have given the theory that men evolved from apes. In his 1859 book On the Origin of Species, he gave compelling evidence of the theory of evolution and overcame scientific rejection of earlier concepts like transmutation of species. Charles Darwin is well known to have given the theory of ‘survival of the fittest’ and of natural selection.

Recently, Satyapal Singh, Minister of state for HRD had created furore saying that Charles Darwin’s theory was scientifically wrong and suggested to remove it from the curriculum of CBSE. However, answering to a written query the HRD Ministry lay to rest all speculations and Satyapal Singh said, “CBSE has ********d that Charles Darwin’s evolution of species is a part of the curriculum under the elective subject of Biology for class 12.”
