CWG 2018: Weightlifter Punam Yadav Wins Fifth Gold For India



New Delhi, April 8: India’s weightlifter Punam Yadav on Sunday won gold in the Women’s 69kg weightlifting category. Yadav lifted a combined total of 222kg (100 snatch and 122 clean and jerk) and defeated England’s Sarah Davies her closest competitor to take her second medal at the Commonwealth Games. In 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow in Scotland, Punam Yadav had won Bronze. This was India’s fifth gold medal in the ongoing games.
Venkat Rahul Ragala yesterday earned India the fourth Gold medal after lifting 338 kilograms in the Men’s 85 kg category. He had lifted 151 kg in snatch and 187 kg in clean & jerk.
On Saturday, Sathish Kumar Sivalingam won gold in Men’s 77 kg weightlifting category. The 25-year-old had lifted a total of 317kg (114kg+173kg) and was so ahead of the competition that he did not go for his final clean and jerk lift. Sivalingam faced a stiff competition from England’s Jack Oliver.
On Friday, India’s Sanjita Chanu won a gold medal in the 53 kg category of weightlifting in Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. She lifted an impressive total of 192 kg to win the medal. She had won a gold in Glasgow in the 48 kg category as well. The other gold was also brought by a woman athlete from Manipur– Mirabai Chanu. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won gold in the 48 kg category on Thursday.

CWG 2018: Jitu Rai Clinches Gold, Om Prakash Mitharval Secures Bronze in Men's 10m Air Pistol Event



Gold Coast (Australia), Apr 9: Shooter Jitu Rai and Om Prakash Mitharval bagged gold and bronze respectively in Men’s 10m Air Pistol event at Commonwealth Games 2018. India now have 15 medals including eight golds in its bag.
Jitu Rai created a new CWG record of 235.1 in the final to claim the gold for India. Australia’s Kerry Bell won silver with 233.5. Om Mitharwal bagged the bronze with 214.3. Earlier, Om enjoyed a promising start to his campaign and emerged as the best shooter in the qualification stage. He equaled the Commonwealth Games (CWG) record on his way to qualifying for the final. Om shot 584 in the qualifying round to equal the record set by fellow Indian Samaresh Jung at the 2006 CWG in Melbourne. Rai reached the final with a score of 570.
Earlier today, Pradeep Singh bagged silver medal in Men’s 105 kg weightlifting final at Commonwealth Games 2018. He lifted 152 kg in snatch and 200 kg in clean and jerk to register a total of 352 kg.

CWG: Mehuli Ghosh Wins Silver, Apurvi Chandela Claims Bronze in Women's 10m Air Rifle Event

Gold Coast (Australia), Apr 9: Indian shooters Mehuli Ghosh and Apurvi Chandela on Monday bagged silver and bronze respectively in the women’s 10m Air Rifle shooting at the Commonwealth Games 2018.
Ghosh missed the gold to eventual champions Martina Lindsay of Singapore in the shoot-off after both were tied at a CWG record score of 247.2 in the final. In the tie-breaker, Ghosh scored 9.9 while Martina shot 10.3 and bagged the gold.
Mehuli Ghosh settled for silver, while Apurvi Chandela got the bronze with 225.3. Earlier today, in men’s 10m air pistol event, shooter Jitu Rai and Om Prakash Mitharwal won gold and bronze medals respectively. Rai shot a total of 235.1 points, thus, registering a new Games record.
Meanwhile, Mitharwal, in his debut at the event, bagged the third spot after shooting a total of 214.3 points, thus, taking India’s medal count to 15. India now have 17 medals including eight golds in its bag.

Gold Coast, April 10: Indian shooter Heena Sidhu bagged the gold medal in women’s 25-metre Pistol event at the 21st Commonwealth Games (CWG) today. While Heena topped the standings, Annu Singh was eliminated. She finished a disappointing 6th. With Sheena’s gold, India now have 20 medals in its bag.


Heena Sidhu reached final bagging third position with 579. She started slowly before climbing up the standings with an awesome show in the Rapid round. She was decidedly below par in the Precision round and was lagging at the seventh spot with 286.
Heena struggled with her opening couple of shots in the Precision round with disappointing efforts of 95 and 93 before recovering somewhat with a 98 in her third and last attempt.
She started the Rapid round poorly as well as she could only manage a 95in her opening attempt. But she saved her best for her last two shots, firing consecutive scores of 99 to zoom to the third spot.
