Default Bindass's "Dadagiri 2" - Full Details

About the Show:
  • Second season premiered in 2009 and featured 12 contenders competing for a prize of Rs. 1,000,000. It became the highest-rated program among Indian youth TV channels in that year. It had 2 bullies; Vishal returned as "The Beast" for the second season, and Sonnalli Seygall replaced Esha as "The Goddess".
  • The second season of the meanest show on Indian television premieres on July 11, 2009, and promises to be bigger, better and crazier.
  • Produced by Endemol, season two of Dadagiri will air from 7 pm to 8 pm every Saturday on Bindass, with 12 new contestants who dare to stand up to the dadas for 15 weeks.
  • The winner takes home - besides pride in a job completed - Rs 10 lakh.

Zarina Mehta, CEO of Bindass said, “Dadagiri is the ultimate test of mental and physical prowess. It is a mind game where contestants face extreme challenges in a location where only the fittest will survive. In the last season, we saw two contestants who actually overcame some of their worst fears while participating in Dadagiri. We have 12 superb contestants this time and three terrific Dadas (commanders)—Vishal, Akash and a stunning goddess, Sonali, that we have introduced this season.”

About this season
  • This season, Dadagiri takes you right into the heart of the Himalayas in picturesque Manali.
  • The 12 contestants are deported to a boot camp, cut off from the outside world with all their worldly belongings seized. As boot camp commanders, the Dadas will constantly watch over the contestants and lead them through the tasks. Vishal: The Beast will make contestants go through the most gruelling task in his Macho Zone, testing their physical strength as they do a coal run, cycle upstream, bike sea-saw, etc.
The weakest performers in the Macho Zone will have to face Goddess Sonali. Her beauty is deceptive; her alluring looks hide a tough spirit with which she will test the contestants’ mental strength. She will put them through stomach-churning challenges in the Playground Zone, such as picking boiled eggs from cow dung with their mouths, or digging through rice glue and chicken fodder and feathers to find what she pleases. The two weakest contestants of the week will face elimination in the Dada Zone, where all the contestants will vote against them.

The contestants

  • The 12 daredevils are Ankit (Shimla), Firoza (Mumbai), Himanshu (Nainital), Mehak (Delhi), Neha (Haryana), Neville (Mumbai), Nitin (Delhi), Nupur (Delhi), Priyanka (Delhi), Saif (Bhopal), Samrat (Chandigarh), Shaila (Delhi).
History:
  • First season, called Dadagiri: Beat the Bullies premiered in 2008, contestants were selected every week and would compete for a prize money of Rs. 50,000. It was hosted by Akash Beri and had 4 "bullies": Vishal as "The Beast", Srman as "The Mindstein", and Esha Bhaskar as "The Goddess" and Quaiser Jamal as Juicy The Chef.Contestants were required to complete physical and mental challenges, as well as endure abuse by the show's "bullies".
  • According to a former contestant, the show was about 70% scripted and 30% improvised.
  • Third season premiered in 2010, D3 Commando Force: Dadagiri Against Terrorism, also had cash prize.
  • Fourth and final season premiered in 2011, titled Dadagiri: The Revenge of the ***es, featured two groups divided by gender. The male team was led by Vishal as "The Beast" and the female team by Shaurya as "The Goddess"

Controversies:
  • Actors and hosts are supposed to bully one another, but violence was never agreed upon. In one episode in 2008, "Esha, the Goddess" (Esha Bhaskar) slapped a contestant named Ravi Bhatia in an unscripted physical attack. He immediately slapped her back.
  • The incident resulted in the male host (Akash Beri) and several other members of the crew physically assaulting Bhatia[4] while he repeatedly asked "How can she slap?" with the crew appearing to be slow in breaking them up.
  • Threats of violence were later made against Bhatia's sister and mother by the host Akash Beri and crew. A video of the incident was leaked and widely shown on Indian television.
  • The video also went viral on the Internet. Bhatia subsequently sent a legal notice to the producers and asked for a public apology.
