Default Who is Bollywood’s No. 1?

The year is coming to an end and it has not been been a very good year, particularly, for Bollywood. BIGOYE compiles the list of the top-10 movies of the year, and the top 5 actor and actress of 2009.

Year 2009 witnessed a very weak box office for Hindi films and the industry could record only four clean hit movies in the entire year. In Indian theatrical territory, Salman Khan starrer action flick ‘Wanted’ was the biggest hit of the year with an India distributor share of 35 crores followed by ‘Love Aaj Kal’ with 33 crores, ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’ with 32 crores and ‘New York’ with 26 crores.

Amongst the actors, Ranbir, Salman and Saif are in close tie for the top slot, but Salman emerged as the dark horse as he is the closest to No.1 spot as ‘Wanted’ is the highest grosser of the year.

Salman's powerful punch in ‘Wanted’ resulted in the rejuvenation of the single-screens in the country (beating Ghajini's single screen record) and also set a new record in collections for a Monday.

Ranbir had a very good year with ‘Ajab Prem’ (Superhit), ‘Wake Up Sid’ (Above Average) and ‘Rocket Singh’ (Average); in 2010 he has films lined up with Imtiaz Ali, Rajkumar Santoshi, Adi Chopra etc.

Saif's ‘Love Aaj Kal’ had the nation gyrating to ‘Twist’ and ‘Aahun Aahun’ and did multiplex business at par with ‘Ghajini’. Some of the other actors who made a mark were Abhay Deol (Dev D), Neil Nitin Mukesh (New York), and Shahid Kapoor (Kaminey).
