Five England players to join IPL auction
London: England will be forced to chop and change next year after it was confirmed at least another five players would be going into the Indian Premier League auction.
Eoin Morgan will lead the way in the rush for another bumper payday in January when he joins Stuart Broad, James Anderson Jonathan Trott and Luke Wright on the available list for the IPL.
It is understood Collingwood has been earmarked to miss part or all of the Bangladesh tour and will make his way to India to join the Delhi Daredevils during the same period. The only cast iron guarantee is he will not be allowed to play when an England match is taking place, but once the final ball has been bowled in Bangladesh then it is game on. Both coach Andy Flower and captain Andrew Strauss have accepted in the past that players will at times have to be rested from international duty to keep them going all year round. That happened with Anderson and Collingwood this summer and it will almost certainly happen with Broad and Pietersen as long as they remain fit. “We’ve got to be conscious of keeping players fresh and motivated to play for England,” said Strauss. “There are good players from all over the world going to play in the IPL and you wouldn’t hold it against them because it is a great opportunity. “But everything in life is a balancing act and we need to work out what is a fair amount for our players to be playing. “The amount of cricket we play is a bit of an issue so we need to be sensible about what is the best times for them to be having a rest.” |
