From casting big movie stars to experimenting with the style of narrations, the makers are ready with their special offerings on Mahalaya. One of the most talked-about TV programs is ‘Debi Doshomohabidya’, which will feature none other than Rituparna Sengupta. Other popular faces from TV will play other avatars of the Goddess.     This Mahalaya, on Bengali television, is certainly going to be a special one. It is the first time, the actress, who has been an essential part of Tollywood for a long time now, will be seen playing Maa Durga on small screen. She has played Debi Durga in different stage shows, and enthralled the audience with her Goddess avatar in photoshoots but, this is the first time, Bengali viewers will see her on the small screen as ‘Mahishasuramardini’. Interestingly most of the popular Bengali film artists including Indrani Halder, Indrani Dutta, Koel Mallik, Subhashree Ganguly, Mimi Chakraborty had played Goddess Durga on television. In fact, some of these popular artists had played the role more than once on TV. But, somehow, Tollywood’s most favourite and successful actress Rituparna wasn’t seen in this avatar on the small screen prior to this. Nevertheless, ‘Debi Doshomohabidya’ will fulfil fans’ dream this year. D****d in a red saree, heavy jewellery, the actress looked beautiful as the Goddess. Viewers will see her dance performances too as the show incorporates many dance routines.

    The senior artist is essaying Lord Shiva in this Mahalaya special TV show. As Shiv-Parbati, Samrat and Rituparna look convincing on-screen.

    Model and actor Saurav Chakrabarti, who is a popular face in Mumbai circuit, has been roped in by the makers for Mahisasur’s role. This is the first time Saurav will be seen in a Mahalaya special show.

  • “It is always special to be a part of a show on Mahalaya,” says actress Rimjhim Mitra, Actress Rimjhim Mitra recently shot for ‘Debi Doshomohabidya’, a Mahalaya special show starring National Award-winning actress Rituparna Sengupta as Mahishasuramardini. Rimjhim enjoyed the experience a lot, especially because of the nostalgia associated with Mahalaya and the fact that the show included dance sequences. “It is always very special to be a part of a show on Mahalaya. And the reason is known to everyone. Mahalaya is always special to everyone who looks forward to Durga Pujo; no matter whether you are Bangali or not,” says Rimjhim. While Rituparna is essaying Mahishasuramardini, other leading actresses will be seen essaying different avatars of the Goddess. “This year, I will be playing Goddess Bhairabi in this special program. A few years back, I played a similar role in a Mahalaya special show which was aired on the same channel. But it was a totally different experience. It was a skit based on a fiction story. We had dialogues and fewer dance performances. This year, it’s another kind of experience. Ritu Di will be seen delivering more dialogues and I got the chance to perform a dance, which I really love. The experience was really beautiful,” says Rimjhim. The actress has always been passionate about dance and made the audiences mesmerised with her s**** earlier as well. Heaping praises on the team she had worked with, Rimjhim says, “Our team was extremely professional. Generally, it takes a lot of time to shoot for a mythological program but everything was perfectly arranged. I loved my look as Bhairabi, too. The team beautifully conceptualised and they made sure that I felt comfortable in the attire. I hope the audience will love the show too,” says Rimjhim.

He enjoyed every bit of his experience of working with the National award-winning actress who will be seen as Devi Durga for the first time on a Mahalaya. Model and actor Saurav has worked in many television serials. As we have already reported, actress Subhashree Ganguly is playing Mahishasuramardini.
