India started the year with a bang, defeating New Zealand 1-0 on their soil for the first time in 41 years in the three match Test series and won the ODIs 3-1. They then marched ahead with a win over

Sri Lanka in the Compaq Cup. Sachin Tendulkar completed his 44th ODI century and Harbhajan claimed a five-wicket haul to script India's victory over the Lankans. After a disappointing outing in the T20 World Cup, Dhoni led India to a 2-1 win over Windies in a four-match ODI series.

The second edition of IPL was moved out of India and the event caught the imagination of the South African public as well. The first edition of Champions League saw New South Wales Blues being crowned as Champions.
