Having won gold in the same event four years ago at the Glasgow CWG, the 25-year-old Apurvi settled for bronze after dominating the eight-member final only for her last two shots of 9.9 and 9.4 to bring her down to third place. She finished with 225.3 points, second to Mehuli’s 247.2.

Pairing up with Harmeet Desai in the men's doubles category soon after, Sathiyan - who was in February named Times of India Sports Awards (TOISA) TT Player of the Year for his achievements in 2017 - confirmed India's gold medal with an 11-8, 11-5, 11-3 win over Abiodin and Olajide Omotayo.

Weightlifter Sathish Kumar Sivalingam made India proud on Day 3 of ongoing Gold Coast 2018 21st Commonwealth Games by clinching a gold medal in 77 kg men’s weight lifting category. Sathish lifted 317 kg in his final attempt and became first male Indian weightlifter to bag back-to-back gold medals at the Commonwealth Games.

Record holder Saikhom Mirabai Chanu brought good news on day 1 of CWG 208 itself by clinching gold for her nation. Chanu broke six records in six lifts to lift gold in the women's 48 kg with a combined effort of 196kg delivered gold in stunning manner.

Weightlifter Gururaja opened India’s account by clinching first silver medal on day 1 of the 21st Commonwealth Games. Gururaja lifted his best weight of 111kg in the snatch, added 138kg in his third attempt in the clean and jerk to end with a total lift of 249kg - thus achieving his personal best.
