9pm is set to be the new battleground for Hindi entertainment channels Colors and Sony. Colors is rolling out the 4th season of Bigg Boss with Salman Khan and Sony is bringing back Amitabh Bachchan on Kaun Banega Crorepati. According to sources, the two shows have close to Rs 200 crore riding on them. Animesh Das tunes in to the buzz



It went on air only last night and news is the fourth season of Kaun Banega Crorepati got an overwhelming response from the aam janta, which remained the sole aim of the channel and the production house.
According to the aMap data, the first episode fetched a rating of 5, which is equal to what 3 Idiots got for the channel when it was screened on July 25. The movie too garnered an average rating of 5.

KBC 4 has got the maximum rating in the recent times for reality shows. Despite stiff competition from Big Boss on Colors, KBC broke all the records for Sony. The rating of KBC touched its peak in the 9.30 to 10 pm slot.
The opening episode of this year saw cricket commentator Charu Sharma and Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, apart from a contestant, who was all smiles sitting on the hot seat. The contestant took home Rs 3, 20,000. Meanwhile, Salman Khan's Bigg Boss 4, telecast in the 9 pm to 10 pm slot recorded an average rating of 3.4 percent on Monday.

The opening episode of Bigg Boss 4 on Oct 3, clashed with the Commonwealth Games (CWG) opening, but had still managed to grab eyeballs. But it couldn't sustain the competition from KBC.

Says Ajit Thakur, Bussiness Head Sony, “We had a clean and entertaining content in our mind, with a strong conviction that families across the nation would prefer to watch it. I am very happy the show in its opening episode has done so well. I wish it continues.”

Plans of Bigg Boss to bring in surprise with Salman Khan in tonight’s episode as competition to KBC, is not happening due to Salman’s ill health.

With Kaun Banega Crorepati 4 all set to hit the small screen from tonight, Colors and Endemol has planned for an exciting episode of Bigg Boss 4, wherein the host Salman Khan was to enter the house to have a pep talk with the contestants and also to bring some happy atmosphere in the house. Salman was supposed to shoot for the episode yesterday, and it was to be aired tonight at the time of KBC's launch. However, Salman fell ill and could not shoot. The makers wanted to shoot with him today, but we hear that, this is also not happening.

Our source says, "Salman was present at the ramp walk of his NGO 'Being Human' on Saturday. But after that, he has not been shooting as he is presently under the rough weather".

With the plan of the Bigg Boss stalled, all eyes will now be on Sony Entertainment television and Amitabh Bachchan.

Well it's surely going to be clash of the titans from tonight at 9pm slot.

Can Sony KBC take a great opening, amidst the aura created by Amitabh Bachchan?

Mumbai: On Monday night, Amitabh Bachchan and Kaun Banega Crorepati made a comeback on the small screen coinciding with the Big B's 68th birthday. So did Bachchan senior manage to make an impact on the TRPs?

Bachchan's return to the fourth season of Kaun Banega Crorepati has been an event in itself, while the show changed hands from Star Plus to Sony Entertainment -- the channel made sure that the opening episode was a celebration of sorts -- having coincided to play out with the Big B's 68th birthday.

Television viewers not only got to see Senior Bachchan mouth a few dialogues from some of his popular films but also witnessed the actor singing and shaking a leg before returning to play his role as the host. While there were a few tweets from the likes of Abhishek Bachchan and Akshay Kumar cheering the Big B's return to television, general public too gave a thumbs up to the show.




Going by aMap ratings, KBC 4 seems to have opened with a bang when compared with other recent Star driven television shows.

The first episodes of Colors' Khatron Ke Khiladi - Season 3 with Priyanka Chopra and Bigg Boss with Salman Khan saw ratings of 2.4 and 3.6 respectively. While the first episode of KBC - Season 4 with Bachchan pulled in average ratings of 5.0.

While it's still too early to pass a verdict since the industry standard TAM ratings are yet to be released, it sure looks like the Big B has received his birthday wish with the opening figures of KBC 4
