Default Salman's family planning

Salman Khan has many faces. His most successful face is that of the triumvirate Khan. The other is of the overly possessive boyfriend, as the man who brought havoc to the sets of his then-lover Aishwarya Rai, costing her the role that eventually went to Rani Mukerji in Chalte Chalte.

Then we have the enigmatic man who campaigned for both major political parties, though he did not vote this year!

But there is another side to Salman you probably have no idea about: the devoted son and family man who hands over his earnings to his father, Salim Khan. "He gives his father whatever he makes. This is then divided into three parts," said a source close to the family, and confirmed by another.

This year, Salman reportedly paid Rs. 14 crore as income tax, showing an annual income of about Rs. 42 crore. The figure is possibly higher because tax is paid after deductions. So Salman makes about Rs. 4 crore a month, or Rs. 13 lakh per day.

Sources say all the Khan siblings, Sohail and Arbaaz included, pool their income into the family kitty.

Neither Sohail nor Arbaaz has done particularly well in their Bollywood careers, though it is not for want of trying. And Salman has supported them in their Bollywood struggle too. "It doesn't matter who brings what in the family," said a source, "It's important to them that they share."

This extends to living together in the family home in Galaxy Apartment in Bandra, northwestern Mumbai. Though, as their families have grown, this has changed.

Salman does, of course, have an account of his own, where he deposits a substantial part of his earnings. A source said that the expensive gifts, particularly the Rs. 3-lakh Rolex watches that Salman had a fondness for handing out, come from this account.

The star is also rumoured to have paid for many of girlfriend Katrina Kaif’s things, though neither of two has acknowledged this in the past.

Though Salman takes away Rs. 5 crore per film, most of his money now comes from endorsements, events and, of course, his ongoing television show, 10 Ka Dum (Sony TV). He is likely to get over Rs. 20 crore for 14 episodes! With the flak he is getting for his upcoming movie Veer, Salman is trying to rope his brothers into advertisements, such as the new Chlormint ad he has done with Sohail, to ensure that the siblings are not sitting home idle and making the occasional quick buck for the family kitty.
