I Am

India was first a nation where homo***uality was considered a crime but with progression and the revised Section 377 a lot of things have changed. Many have come out the closet while some are still planning the bold step. It's definitely not easy. Depiction of gays in bollywood has also altered with time. Let's take a look at some of the films that have been based on or have shown the alternative ***uality.

'I Am' is a fusion of stories of four individual who are in search of their true identity. Rahul Bose's story 'I Am Omar' in the film is about the horrific tale of ***ual discrimination. It revolves around the misuse of Section 377 which earlier considered homo***uality a crime and was used to harass gays.

My Brother Nikhil

Onir's earlier production, 'My Brother Nikhil' spoke about a gay swimmer who contracts HIV positive. While his family and friends abandon and ostracize him, he finds solace with his partner and sister. The film was received well and considered as one of the few Hindi films that depict a gay relationship in its true sense.

Turning 30

It's not easy to accept or register when someone you've known your whole life announces his new found ***uality. 'Turning 30' is about the complication of relationships between anyone and everyone. The film shows that homo***ual relationships are no different from hetero***ual ones. They also feel the same heart break and fear infidelity as much as any other person.
